It’s not terrible, it’s not great. It’s modern Metallica. A bit hmmm.

About halfway through it goes very Countdown to Extinction-era Megadeth, which I’m sure will get some people frothing at the mouth in a good or bad way :)

  • Been watching a couple of episodes of The Sweeney. I then spent time looking up the filming locations on imdb then checking them on Google Street maps to see how they've changed. Some of the London locations still exist and some are no longer there.

Germany being dumped out of a WC in the group stages for the second tournament in a row. Not going to gloat as I know all to well how painful that is.

What a second half from Japan against Spain though.

  • Heh, I haven't even watch a single game because "idgaf", so good riddance. Maybe that will mean some bargains. I remember a few years ago, after we also went out of a tourney (could have been Euro rather than World cup) this shop flogged "soccer crisps" for 35 cents rather than the regular asking price of about 1 Euro, so I bought a few packets.

    So far, so meh :)
  • oh gawd, the only thing by Barker that failed. Just didn't have the same feel as Porridge.

  • Aye, not as good as Porridge, but I always liked it. Different, but decent as far as I am concerned.

  • I must admit I have an appreciation for obscure and short lived sitcoms. That one didn't quite hit the spot for me, but there are a few around like Nightingales, Whoops Apocalypse, Hot Metal, Kinvig

I also have two where I caught one episode and cannot for the life of me remember the names but I really would love to see them. One was about some guy living on an estate, which actually turned out to be an alien prison and the only way out is by getting a bus, which normally you can't get on (I think).

The other is based in Northern Ireland (I think), of a family living in a flat and they have an ex terrorist living in their loft and some other weird things were going on.

If anyone remembers these, I would really appreciate a title, so I can look them up.
    Sod it!

    .

I don't believe I've seen the Porridge follow up, but Luny mentions Nightingales. That really is one of my favourite sorta sleeper shows that few has heard of. Normally I cannot stand Robert Lyndsey but a complete exception in Nightingales. I even like him singing the theme tune. It always reminds me of after a nightskift at the end credits. Brilliant.

Yes, Nightingales works on many levels. The sombre end credits with the night scene reflects the isolation of the three night guards having to face all sorts of surreal situations. The comedy is brilliant with some great actors, David Threlfall showing what he's got as a comedy actor.

I liked Robert Lyndsey in My Family, the early ones at least. The later ones were awful.

My older nephew who's almost 12 took up boxing a few months back....I was expecting him to say it sucked and quit after a few weeks....Nope! He's really into it, and isn't quitting at all which is good.

He usually comes over on Friday nights to hang out with obviously the most fun,and cool family member i.e. me! But since he started boxing I told him he should watch the Rocky movies....I did tell him the first one is from the late 70's, and he should never drink raw eggs :))

Anyway over weeks, and weeks we've watched the Rocky movies, he was really into them, but tonight me and him watched the first Creed movie.

Me and him both went in blind, and I'd like to say I was expecting it to be shite, it actually wasn't! I really liked what I saw, plenty of 'member berries for Rocky fans, plenty of modern influences for newbies. All in all not a bad flick, looking forward to nect Friday night when we watch the second Creed film.

Now I just wish he'd stop asking me to train him in martial arts....I remember everything I did in my head, but my body won't follow suit! I'd have to train myself all over again before I could even think of showing him anything :))

I saw the first Creed movie about a year after release and thought it would be rubbish. Let me lead into this by saying I absolutely love the Rocky movies. Outside of LoTR they're probably my favourite movie series. I've watched them all, without exaggeration, hundreds of times since I was 10 years old.

But Creed isn't rubbish, not in the slightest. In fact it's a damn good movie with an exceptional performance from Stallone (he was Oscar nominated for it). There's a bloody good story in there. I particularly liked that one scene where Adonis goes to the apartment above to complain about the loud music. You really think she's being an asshole but a while later you learn she really isn't. I thought that was so well done.

The second movie is good too. I won't say anything about it other than it ties up and has a satisfying conclusion to one of the Rocky movies.

I hope your nephew keeps at boxing. I know a few younger people who've taken it up and love it. Teaches an incredible amount of discipline and all of those young people I mention are an utter credit to themselves.

The nephew actually has a heavy bag in his garage, and he goes for nightly runs round his neighborhood. He has an exhibition I really want to go to on the 17th, but I’m having an early Christmas dinner on that day with my brother and sister in law, and one of my other nephews, and nieces. He’s not happy about it, but anyway he dragged me downstairs to his garage and showed me his skills on the bag. He’s small and skinny but he’s getting really good. His instructor is already swinging towards training him as a speed, and technical fighter. He’s one of the fastest kids on his age group.

He managed obviously to con me into showing him a few things. So without any warm up I pound the shit out of his bag for about 5 minutes straight. Showed him some kicks, knees, elbows, the usual. I think he was secretly impressed, but I don’t think he’d ever admit it :))

Mind you I payed the bloody price for that show, good job I was off work the next day, because when I woke up I was sorer than Annabelle Chong’s fanny!

  • New Indianna Jones

I'm a huge fan of the films, but that's gonna try me for sure. Looks great though. I was thinking why is Mel writing Indianna, then doh! I didn't like that Crystal Skull much, so here's hoping. Or should I forget it and go watch the cocaine bear? Hmm. Never try to outrun a bear or climb a tree to avoid. Walk away slowly backwards for a distance is the advice, but, a cocaine bear? Be like a giant honey badger.

  • Heh, yeah. I love sugar. I love sweets. Honey is fine. Stop me if I talk to much, do another line.

Hope Capt. Katanga is in it.

Well, tell a lie, I did like the Crystal skull a bit. Just not compared to the first three,

@ZX1 I think it's gonna be slightly woke, but not full on woke,

I stole it off a space ship.

Not sure how I ended up watching this, but its classic british sitcom with the great Leonard Rossiter (from 1974). Also watched the Rising Damp film but wasn't really as funny, more of rehash of several episodes, and without Richard Beckinsdale.
