Is there any site that proves that vinyl is better than CD? It would be necessary to record from vinyl at 96KHz and compare to CD with the same sound to see if theres more detail. I'm doubtful that CD isn't best.
Get back to vinyl kids - you know it's the only way! CD is too clinical and cold. Just listen to the difference in power between "Satisfaction" on the original 7" and CD. It's night and day. I demand more vinyl!

What difference is there between shm and flac?
You mean shn. Nothing much really they're both lossless compressed file formats but flac files tend to be a little bit smaller.

I never left vinyl, I've got over 1500 vinyl albums and singles.
If you want to hear the difference listen to Metallica's "Fade to Black" off Ride the Lightning on vinyl then CD. You'll almost miss the very last line in the song.
Digitally remastered stuff on vinyl is the absolute pits. What's the point? Not worth wasting the money on unless you want a big black frisbee :)
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

I didn't have time to read the thread but MP3's have their place(as they're convenient and some people get free tunes this way instead of supporting their artists :( ) - But, if you like your music then look to other media. i.e. Live, Vinyl, Tape, CD, minidisc, MP3 in that order.
Honestly - the argument about human ears only hearing blah blah blah pisses me off. Regardless of what the human ear hears, the sound still builds up differently in the air between you and the speakers - with MP3's being the worst offenders for losing proper resonant build up(producing flattened, tone-less sub-bass etc).
Go Vinyl Go Vinyl(you can't scratch anything else or beat juggle it)

The thing with CD is that it is digital, so no matter how high the sampling frequency, it is still sampling, not giving the whole sound.
Strictly speaking this is not true. One only needs to sample at 2B to perfectly recreate the original sound - where B is the bandwidth of the sound.
It is the quantization process which introduces irreversable losses and this is unavoidable on a digital system where it is certainly possible to increase the sample frequency indefinitely.

Bloody Hell!!! me and alanspec agree on something
Though to be honest in your order of what media to go for I would put CD above tape.
(Just my opinion :D)
Unless your a crybaby anal biotch its fine for general listening...better than scratchy vinyl that we all listened too back in the spectrum era anyway.
Now, if you one of those fools that spends ?100 per foot on speaker cable then mp3 is not for you.
Edit: Oh and btw, judging by the stuff posted in the 'today I'm listening too' thread most people on here dont care about quality anyway!

It's not impossible(that was only a minor quibble anyway - I'm not here to try and piss people off, I'm here 'cos I appear to still be speccy obsessed.....I thought it might wear off at some stage(like when I grew up!!!) but no, I'm still hoooooooked)
CDs over tapes? Probably, but speccy games came on tapes so they stay above CD's in my list :D

Except that is not the case. Check out the Pioneer CDJ1000. You can do absolutely everything on these with a CD that you can do with vinyl. Hence the reason even Judge Jules has stopped using vinyl in favour of these.

Interesting thought, if you use oxygen-free copper cables does that mean that you can't play anything by Jean-Michel Jarre?
I use oxygen-free cables on my hi-fi and it has never played any JMJ choons. Although this is possibly down to my own taste in music, does it still count?
