  • Speed bonny boat like a bird on the wing. That's all I know, but household name though. Somehow I thought he'd have been older than that. Was the beard I suppose.

    Roger Whittaker (87)
He was very famous in Finland and his death was widely publicised here. His song "finnish whistler" was the theme music for the (first ever?) finnish cooking show "Patakakkonen" since 70s and absolutely every Finn under 40 years old knows the tune ( ).

  • Keeping this thread warm for Russell Brand's career and/or freedom.
  • Yeah he’s getting the Johnny Depp treatment right now…

And yet, all I knew about him was that he wrote the tune that would one day become the Hampsterdance (with an extra P).

Good luck getting that out of your head for the next two weeks.

It does seem now that if anyone famous got somone in
Yeah he’s getting the Johnny Depp treatment right now…

It does seem at the moment, that any celebrity that slept with anyone that consented but latter regretted it is a potential target now though I'm not saying what he did was right.

  • Thing with Russell Brand’s case I find interesting is it’s funny how all these women came forward at once (Contacted by a journalist purposely trying to dig dirt on him), none of them gave their real names (So they can’t be sued for defamation), and the initial “journo” who wrote the hit piece on him didn’t include any of the statements from the women who painted him in a positive light.

Now I’m not saying that it’s an attempt to get rid of someone who says a lot of things the mainstream media doesn’t want them saying, but it’s certainly looking that way.

  • It certainly looks that way. Doesn't matter if there is one case of truth, that's the end of his channel. I suppose they all went to his house for a cup of tea and a chat about 17th century glazed ceramics. That's the end of him. Seems to be the modus operandi now.

I'll fully admit that I've never liked Brand as I've always felt there was something off about him. The Andrew Sachs ****-show showed some of his true colours. But I certainly wouldn't like him convicted if he was engaging in consensual sex with these women.

His problem now is that his act has always been about being open with his sex life. And by open I meaning sharing far too many details than he should. I'm no prude but I've found that creepy since day one and felt it's not a million miles away from Savile cracking "jokes" about him not being allowed near any all-girls schools. The whole joking about it in plain sight deflection tactic.

If he is innocent I hope it comes out properly and there's no question marks. I know from personal experience what it's like to have a family member accused of these things. I've hinted about this in the past but I can now actually talk about it as it's all finally over in recent weeks.

It doesn't look good for Brand though.

  • If he's guilty then they should throw the book at him but i wonder did these girls know what they were walking into? He picked one up from school which is creepy but did they think he was going to sit and play scrabble with them? He does appear to be an anti vax nut though.

Personally I'd like to know the context of meeting up with these women (apart from the 16 year old whom he was obviously seeking a relationship with) - was it for sex or something else entirely? Even the 16 year old he hasn't done anything wrong apart from it being utterly creepy that a 30 year old bloke is trying to have a relationship with someone of that age.

My youngest is 16 and you'd better believe that if a 30 year old bloke came after her then... it wouldn't end well for him.

  • To lighten this up a little.

Wasn't Roger Whittaker related to David Whittaker? Creator of many a great Speccy tune.

Good point! David is the nephew of Roger Whittaker.
  • Didn't think I'd imagined that! Pretty sure it was mentioned in one of the main mags at BITD.
