There are still a lot of good movies made, but you need to search them out.
Most of the blockbusters are over-CGI-ed derivative nonsense, but some are still enjoyable. For example, I've generally got little artistic enjoyment out of the past 20 years' saturation of comic super-hero franchises. But I did really like the Guardians of the Galaxy movies (especially the first one) because for the most part they were not too constrained by their comic-book origins or some formula. In fact I didn't even know the first Guardians was a Marvel movie when I watched it, and couldn't work out why it was even had that title. It just seemed to me like a funnily-scripted SciFi movie about a bunch of space-faring misfits!
To find something to watch, I tend to compare multiple movie review sites and get a feel for what is actually good as opposed to what is just getting hyped by the Hollywood-sponsored publicity machine.
To be honest I've lost interest in films mostly. I think the last film I went to the cinema to see was the first part of Lord of the Rings. When the Hobbit came out I totally passed on it - if I am honest I think it was Billy Connolly being in it put me off. Also I didn't see why a book about one fifth the length of LOTR needed to be made into three super long films.
Yeah I passed on the Hobbit and not even watched any of them when on TV.
LotR was good though especially the first 2 (last one went awry at the end). Bad Taste was great though ;) And the one with wobbly (note to Rubberkeys: NOT mongy lard) Kate Winslet in it :)
I never understood why they got Peter Jackson to do LOTR. I'm not a massive Tolkien fan, I did read the books years ago, but they do go on a bit, always prefered the Narnia books as a kid.
He was a massive LotR fan and pitched it to several studios before they let him do it.
Could have done with some wobbly Kate in it though :) Liv Tyler - not wobbly enough.
I agree the books go on and on and on, prefer the films really... story is pretty good though. Narnia was more for kids I thought, it's like Star Trek vs Star Wars ;) You never heard of Edmund or whoever it was in the Narnia books (or Luke Skywalker for that matter) copping off with blue skinned blonde beehive haircut mini-skirt wearing space aliens did you?
I took it upon myself to watch Dune.....Not gonna lie I was impressed! I'd like to say I spotted some wokeness, and some race swapping....But no not really, Frank Herbert didn't really specify race on a lot of the characters, so it doesn't really matter, plus it's already well written, because it's not Hollyweird b*llocks...If they changed Dune up too much they'd have way too much backlash on their hands, and it would bomb! Gender and race swap on 1 character I noticed....But nothing too much to be like "It goes against the source material too much, blah, blah, blah".
Going to start part 2....Yup! Like I said not gonna lie part 1 very good indeed! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
EDIT: Not going to start part 2....The Janky Russian Server I nick all my movies from these days, only has a p*ss poor wonky camjob uploaded right now, so I'll wait a week or so :))

PJ was hanging around for years, waiting for someone to make them into movies. In the end he realised no one was going to do it, so started himself. As PS said above, he pitched it to a lot of studios but they were only interested in making one or at most two movies, and PJ knew it would require a trilogy. Only New Line took the chance and the rest is history.

I'm trying to think who else might have made a good job of directing it. Perhaps Ron Howard, or Ridley Scott maybe, or Guillermoro De Toro?
LOTR? I walked out of Disturbia. I walked out of Sweeney Todd (I walked out a lot that year). LOTR is maybe the only movies where I fall asleep about 10 mins into them. I don't normally fall asleep, but LOTR.. it's worse than being dragged to a Cathlolic mass. Giz a ring lol.
Mandy. I was trying to watch that again. Mandy played by Diane Morgan. In the second series episode 1 or 2 she does mention the ZX Spectrum. Diane Morgan is supah!

Its just lots of plodding and running around followed by a big battle :-)) Just kidding theres some good moments, but its too long for my tastes and while theres lots of scenic moments, it still feels a bit uninspired at times.
Diane Morgan is superb as Philomena Cunk of course, watched all I could of that on Youtube. The one about nuclear weapons probably the best
I have dreams / nightmares about nuclear wars, had one a couple of nights ago. Always seem to be running from the blast, trying to hide behind someones garden wall or something - then I feel myself getting vaporised, and wake up.
Yes I put ABBA on every time I wake up from one of those dreams. No I don't really, but I wonder why I keep having these dreams? I think it might come from watching Terminator 2

Kickass was obviously a very good satire as well ;)

Quentin Tarantino for a much swearier version too.
EDIT: Although we did get Yosser Hughes with a big role... Giz a Ring, I can destroy that, Gizza? And Paul Daniels playing Gollum was quite a scoop.
The Mouth of Sauron guy was in Mad Max IIRC, him being from NZ was the main reason for that I think ;)
Hehehe.

That guy is the best at keeping a straight face and going along with it though. Brian Cox was also very good ;)
EDIT: Brian Cox at the end here, trying to keep a straight face lol
