I know I found out how to keep hold of the knife by cheating but I did drop a subtle clue into an earlier post (I don't want to repeat it for fear of ruining anyone's fun!)
All right, to continue with my quest in Monster: I'm stuck again!
I've reached the city of Aurum and wandered here and there but to no further progress. I can't seem to buy or sell anything for the lack of a money bag. There seems to be some litter of leaves could perhaps be swept to reveal something, but I have nothing to sweep with. I also discovered a 2 feet hollow reed close to the Ogre Camp but have no idea what it's for. Further on, I got into the boat next to the jetty but can't seem to go anywhere in it. And I can't get out of it!
What now?
EDIT: And what of the horse and the cave system beneath the mounds (the entry to which fries you to a crisp)? Also has anyone found a cutting tool yet?

Money bag: I think you should return to the temple (outside of it). You forgot something overthere...
Cutting thing: don't know.
Litter: I found a broom and tried to sweep that, but in vain. The broom is useful elsewhere.
Reed: it will be useful later.
The Boat: yeah, I've had the same problem. Right now I don't recall the right phrasing. I'll have a go later and try. Anyway, I forgot to tell you that you'll need a set of oars to use the boat. Strange, eh.
Made some progress thanks to the money bag outside the temple (thx for the tip WIWC).
I've now returned the staff to the wizard but the old goat disappeared after leaving me to find him his staff! So much for his promised help! Speaking of help, Gordo hasn't done much apart from some offering to help.
The hermit in the cave was a strange one indeed and I now know what to do with the cake of salve from his cave. I've also found a curious map whose use I can't fathom at the moment.
Apart from that no real progress as yet. Still haven't found the oars, the broom or a cutting implement. Dunno what the mirror, the green key, and the reed are for. Can't figure out how to move the boulder in the cave to the SE of the stones and what to do with the armour.
Must say it's quite a well written adventure. Did anyone notice that this game has graphics for EVERY location in the game? Quite impressive.
And yeah, I had a go at The Golden Pyramid. It's shite!
I don't suppose anyone actually got anywhere with the Golden Pyramid. How it got such good reviews back in the day is beyond me. Surely the reviewers had some help?

Wondered that myself. To be honest, I enjoyed it enormously at first and felt it was putting simple atmosphere and puzzles ahead of gimmicks (which I felt sunk Crack City). I got stuck at the mantrap and had no idea what to do and once the reports came in about the alternative way out of the tree I got annoyed and didn't bother with it much more. Allowing the player to continue after he's made a fatal error is a dirty, dirty trick and a sign of very bad design. It ruined my faith in the game.
Interesting. I had in fact tried telling him to MAKE OARS but that hadn't got me anywhere and I'd given up that approach. Maybe I need to reword that a bit then...

I suppose you meant "and that old goat asked for his wand" not for the staff again...
The Boulder: you need to refresh yourself.
While you guys are playing these games is anybody noting down solutions for the tipshop?
I would guess that any maps that people are making would also find a nice home here even if there not quite complete.

5/10 for me.
By the way, I always vote in the archive.

"Give paper to carpenter" elicits the response "There is no carpenter here."
Funny that since he happens to be right there all along. I tried variations on the command but nothing seems to work!
WWIC, you'll have to come to my rescue again! What's the damn command to get the oars made by the carpenter??!
Bytes:Chuntey - Spectrum tech blog.
So I looked at the solution: you must tell him to make them, trying to give him the drawing is useless.
"Still, why the carpenter disappears when you try to give the paper to him is a mistery".
