I hope I havent opened a can of worms here, but I thought the fact that Arjun is possibly the biggest Spectrum fan on the entire Indian subcontinent was pretty cool.
As for the rest of the world, I do know the French have always been pretty keen on orics so maybe they're all posting on World of Oric and the germans, maybe they're all on the Sintech forums.
I hereby solemnly accept this honour of representing the entire Indian sub-continent and China (I don't see ny chinese folks here) for the Speccy community. Amen!
Seriously, it completely beats me why the scene is the way it is. Maybe other folks don't have so much time on their hands... :)
Anyone seen the current advert with a dog playing Space invaders on an Atari wooden looking console? I'll not say what the advert is for for a little competition.

Well, the 720 registered WOS forum users are hardly a significant sample of the world distribution, aren't they... And add that the forum lanugage is english and we're talking about a computer that was MUCH more popular in UK than anywhere else, so after all it's not that surprising that in the forum other "cultures" are not as represented as they should be.
Besides, we've already discussed of the fact that perpahs only 3 girls or so ever posted to these forums...
yes, 720 users from world over is a small number. but isn't it disconcerting that only 1 is from the Asian continent? I mean, there are more than 3 billion ppl here. Aren't there any more Spechums in this 3 billion? I find that hard to believe.
As for girls? 3??!! I only know that Knightmare was one, but there were 2 more???

Well, I'm sure there are more, but where was the Spectrum sold in asia? Did it reach China, for instance? :) Also, don't we get by far fewer russians than we should?

Well, there was one around before her, I think, and one just posted recently, or so. Not that I log them... ;)
I'm not sure bout China, but considering it was popular in Russia AND India (both of which are China's neighbours), I would expect at least some of the stuff to reach there. On the other hand, knowing China...maybe not! :)
good point bout the russians, btw...y so few?
one girl recently posted? Well, I certainly didn't log any apart from Knightmare (and only b'cos she said she was from the fairer sex)... so where are all the women? Married with kids I suppose...
There was apparently a few Spectrum clones that made it to the far east and I think the Spectrum may have had official releases in Hong Kong and Japan, but having said that I know a few Japanese people from uni and none of them have heard of the Speccy.
I think its weird that we never see any Russians here, but there is a large selection of dedicated russian sites out there and there does seem to be a very separate scene. Maybe we should go on a diplomatic mission and extend the hand of friendship to our estranged brothers.

I often buy C-16's at car boot sales. Normally for about 2 pounds, and sell the carts and boxed joysticks and just junk the computers!
I'm looking for a C16 actually. Not the datacassette or the power pack etc, just the actual computer on it's own. So, thx1138, you don't happen to have one lying about ready to be chucked do you?
ATARI had very heavy advertising in the 1980's. Remember the advert with - was it Bob Carolgees?
Do you remember adverts for for the Philips console? Can't remember the name for the console but I remember the advert for the game "Crazy Chase" which had a song to the tune of "Baby Face"

Not right now, no. I have far more PCW's than is healthy. I shan't start carbooting again until the spring now.
