I will really feel sorry for the fool that does bid on that.

My belief about the status of that game still stands.

Sorry guys i really dont know how to feel about these prices, from 95-99 i used to be a retro/modern game trader(Atari2600,c64,vic20,speccy,etc to PS,N64)although i was eventually based in Wednesbury in the midlands i used to do the car boots like Studley and Halfpennygreen.I was selling spectrum tapes 50p each or 3 for ?1 (any type or size) and believe me in the final desperate stages my personal collection at the time was thrown in!.In fact i still have the grey tub i used to sell them in.

Dont get me wrong i am as much as a retro game enthusiast as the next poster on this or any other retro forum but even today is there really a spectrum cassette woth more than ?10?(?20 max and that would be old new stock like the hobbit with book in shrink wrap)My x-girlfried used to bring me complete spectrum units and tapes(and some times snes, megadrive boxed, etc) from the charity shop she worked as the are not allowed to sell electrical goods she would make small donation and bring them home for me otherwise they throw them in the skip(no sh*t!if you knew how much retro stuff the people in charity shops skip u would fall to your knees weeping).
Good news though even today i do find on occasion spectrum tapes in old shops and not always the re-released games either and they r 20p-50p!.
Do u think these auctions damage peoples opinions of 8-bit tapes?,people who know no better are surely gonna dig out there games from the attic and start putting them on e-bay at obsurd prices.

Almost certainly, but the fact of the matter is, it's up to the buyer whether they want to pay those kind of stupid prices or not. It annoys the hell out of me to see such ridiculous prices, but if this seller gets lucky and someone BIN's the game then fair play to them. It happens with other collectables after all - I mean, I sold a single Star Wars figure to a collector for over ?60 when I was emigrating. Was I complaining? Nope! :D

I personally baulk at paying any more than a couple of quid for a game, and I consider myself a serious collector, but it seems there are plenty of people out there who will pay a lot more to complete a collection or bring back a childhood memory, etc. - and there are plenty of sellers who'll exploit that.

Just be thankful that it hasn't gotten totally out of hand yet - remember, people pay hundreds for old McDonalds happy meal toys, Beanie Babies and Pez dispensers. The fact that one Speccy game is now commanding a perceived three figure price tag isn't necessarily cause for panic just yet...

My old man helps down at the local Oxfam and says the exact same thing - most of the retro stuff and tapes don't get past the store room entrance and go straight into the skip. :(

I'm gonna try and get him to rescue some more stuff if I can before it gets slung and make donations for donate some money for items that I can keep.

I worked at an Oxfam for a few months some years back, just as they were clearing out the basement. A glance in the backyard revealed an inlay to Tapper - so they'd already scrapped loads of stuff. :(
I managed to rescue a couple of boxes of Speccy games, a couple of BBC computers and one or two other things. I would've rescued a load of Amigas + games too but had no way to get them home (or anywhere to store them) so they got trashed - this was before I knew of eBay.

The manager said they were no longer accepting computers. I offered to make a donation for anything that came in, and then take them home, but he wasn't having any of it. It was mainly because of this that I stopped working there. I didn't think it was much to ask really - I'd have worked a lot more shifts if I had that incentive. :(

Blimey what a stupid ebay auction, i'll be totally shocked if anyone buys that for 200 quid

At the end of the day that last auction went silly because two bidders didnt want to lose out to each other and they kept upping it to a silly price.

Its a bit like when Retro Gamer Issue 1 sold for 90 quid, because some idiot paid that price or bid up to that price other people suddenly started listing them for 100 quid buy it now

A friend of mine who used to work for Oxfam a couple of years ago remembers how they dumped a few hundred Silver label Tranz Am copies together with Mire Mare and Gianna Sisters thrown in for good measure.

    Or so I think ...
