No more Ebay for me

edited November 2005 in Chit chat
Well I suppose its taken a while for me to learn my lesson but I have just lost ?25.00 through buying on Ebay ( that makes the total money I have lost, through absolutely no fault of my own to ?75.00 ) The ?25.00 item was paid for by cheque and I still haven't recieved it after 2 months so I reported it to Ebay and I have just got an email from Ebay saying that I have to send them a copy of the check in order to get a part refund. My advice to anybody who is or are going to buy on Ebay is in my opinion and experience don't expect a full refund if anything should go wrong at the end of the day it has always been me who ended up out of pocket when a transaction went wrong. Needless to say when I have sold the things I want to sell on Ebay I won't be using them again !!!!!

I never had a problem with buying on ebay, and I've been using it for more than three years now. Sure, some items take a while to arrive, but that's usually a problem with the postal service and not the seller.

I'm just very good at spotting honest sellers, I suppose. :)

I got a mega pc for my TV that arrived with no cables or the remote. The seller told me he would send them on & they didn't arrive. To top it off, it wasn't a legal copy of windows, and he'd put XP pro on instead of MCE which would have been installed when he brought it.

nothing turned up, he's no longer registered with ebay. I put a dispute in with paypal to request a part refund (?50). The reply I got back was that the item wasn't damaged in the post so I wouldn't get a refund! So much for buyer protection.

I've also lost countless wads of cash as a seller due to the items not arriving. I tend to refund the buyers if I can.

I also won a broken spectrum from a new forum member, which I paid for twice due to the first payment going astray. Thats happened a few times.

Aha - no. It was advertised as broken! I knew what I was buying, and because of his ebay userid I had a pretty good idea he wasn't taking me for a ride.

    :p

I like the TV advert in which all these happy people have bought all these wonderful, mint-condition presents for their family at Xmas from ebay. Not.

In six years, with loads and loads of purchases, I've had the misfortune of being ripped off three times by dodgy sellers.

However, on every occasion, I've managed to get a 100% refund - though of course, you have to pay by Paypal and initiate a charge-back. That then puts the responsibility of proving that the items has been received by you on the seller.

Unless it's for a very low value item, I won't send cheques/postal orders out any more. It's too risky.

I understand that not every seller accepts Paypal, but in most cases, I'd refuse to deal with them if they don't (unless of course I can go and collect the item in person)

I dont think ebay is too bad, i've had some buyers been complete pains but thankfully (touch wood) everything i've bought i've received.

If they have cashed the cheque then you could seek legal advice, they've cashed a cheque of yours (so you have their name and address) and you havent received the goods.

Someone at WOS had something similar happen to them and they were taking the other person to court.

Just because of one bad transaction i wouldnt say ebays that bad, in practically anything in life something will go wrong at a time. Eg you buy a laptop and you find out a week later its not working properly etc etc.

Sadly there is some scum on ebay trying to take the p*ss and scam people.

I've never had a problem with ebay after almost 4 years on it. I always check the sellers feedback before buying anything, and also I only pay via paypal. I've never spent more than ?50 on an item. I don't think I would spend any more either, just in case!
