Ah yes I remember those. They came in lead lined safes, hence the heavy postage costs. Took two of us to carry it home when it was first released.

Can't you report people for charging ridiculous postage costs? Or do you just laugh at their idiocy as no-one bothers to bid?

The worst postage costs I've seen on Ebay was for those cheap MP3 players from China. The postage was typically ?12-16 per player, but then they suddenly went up to over 50 quid! For that much postage, I'd want the player in a golden box and delivered to my door by a minor celebrity at the very least. The postage for those has gone back down the last time I looked anyway.

    Some feedback from this guy:

    "excellent, postage - bit pricey
Reply by goldfoot666: thanks for your custom; postage is stated on all items, too pricey - don't bid"

"great item! but ?1 for standard 1st class? bit expensive! Love the patch
goldfoot666: thanks for pos f/back mate. all auctions state postage so people know b4 bidding"

A buyer that posted neutral feedback:
" slow, yet cheap and well packaged
Reply by goldfoot666: Posted day after payment, out of my hands, thanks for neutral feedback newbie"

    The only negative feedback:
    " S***t doesn't work, lucky it only cost ?3!!
Reply by goldfoot666: Item worked when I sent it, must be you that doesn't work (PS sh*t is 4 letters)"

Personally I wouldnt buy from this guy, as hes clearly making money from the postage, so even if you win an auction for ?1, he then "secretly" adds say ?5 to himself via postage costs, so in fact you paid ?6.
Even though he lists the postage costs, its his poor excuse, but he is right though, people shouldnt bid if they arent willing to pay the postage costs. And hes arrogant, thats a deterrent in itself.

I never bid on auctions which have excessive p&p.

Spoke to the bloke, hes changed it to 1.50. I thought it might be the case, he said he had used an old template and forgot to change the postage.

Thats why I keep an eye on them. Ususally they don't get bid as high as others and the overall price can be bargain on some occasions.

Yeah i've won one or two items like that, the final price was very low, yeah the postage bumped it up but it was still a good deal.

Also sometimes get some good bargains when people put things in the wrong category, not so many people then find that item and bid so the price is low.

I'm sure people charge excessive postage fees to cover the final sale fee and the paypal fee. So that in actual fact the buyer is paying all the sellers fees.

    Very naughty

    Why is it naughty?

Pretty much every business factors some of its overheads into the final cost of what they sell.

    It's called Fee Avoidance.

By lowering the price of the item and raising the P&P, the seller's final value fee is lower (since the fee doesn't take into account P&P). Ebay, wanting to maximise its profits, frowns upon this practise.

Personally, I just find it to be very greedy. I don't use ebay anymore because I'm sick of all the chancers selling copies of Bubbler for ?200, and charging postage fees four times higher than they need to be. Whenever I used to sell stuff on eBay - I only ever charged at cost for P&P. If nothing else, it's more likely that someone will bid for your item if the P&P is low, so these greedy b*stards are just shooting themselves in the foot.

I agree some sellers are chancers. But I don't see anything wrong with a seller getting 25p or 50p back towards their fees by charging a little extra on postage.

Its low value items (under ?5) that are hardest hit by ebays fee structure.

If I am selling mags on ebay I usually charge ?2 p&p. The actual p&p is probably around ?1.00 - ?1.50.

If buyers pay with paypal I can't avoid paying fees on the paypal payment as it includes whatever p&p I charged.

As Ebay own paypal and have it integrated into their system they get their fees twice it seems to me.

I don't disagree. And I don't mind paying an extra 50p or so postage. What gets me is when you pay ?4.50 postage and when you actually recieve the item you find it's only cost ?1.26 thats when it's naughty.
