South of Heaven is a fine album (especially lyrically, tracks like BEHIND THE CROOKED CROSS and READ BETWEEN THE LIES)

However, REIGN IN BLOOD has to take the prize musically. Twenty-odd minutes of mayhem. I only wish I could play the drums as well as Dave Lombardo ;) (with or without amphetamines)

ON the subject of the 'documnetary'.... what a load of reactionary toss. It has obviously been well researched, so that it could give a completely biased 'Daily Mail' style scaremongering effect (to anyone who's NOT knowledgable about such things)

downloaded the show from uknova, wasnt very good in my opinion.

Glen Benton came across as quite friendly. I thought he was properly scary when I was 18.

A lot of the bands, and fans, came across as complete knobs though.

    Glen Benton, friendly...

    It's Deicide ;)

I was out last night, but I remembered to set a tape for it, might watch it tonight.

How much of it was about the Norwegian scene?

Did Burzum (Count Grishnack) get a mention? I'm assuming that if Mayhem (Euronymous) did the Burzum should've. What about Mortiis (guitarist in Mayhem)? What about Bathory (Quorthon)?

Ah, what the hell. I'll find out when I watch it :D

That Biafra/Ozzy bit was based on the commotion surrounding Suicide Solution from Blizzard of Oz which was 1984 I think. It was maybe 84-87 that someone *did* commit suicide to that song and it got dragged through the courts.

Mortiis wasn't in Mayhem (I think anyway  ) He was the bass player in Emperor.

I found the program highly interesting. I'm a HUGH black/death metal fan and have seen all of the bands (except the kids one) many time (except Mayhem and Dissection). I was surprised that the managed to get MOST of their facts right as they usually get band histories mucked-up. The only obvious mistake was saying that Mayhem invented Black Metal, It was Venom who created Black Metal. Mayhem had a hugh part in shaping the sound, but the didn't invent the stuff by a long shot! I just wish I'd taped it to watch it again!

I love Venom, they're hilarious... especially Cronos. Didn't one of them wear glasses?

Ah shit. Yeah, that's right. He did play a little part in the whole incident himself though. Also, I think he was dating Grishnack's ex or something aswell.

If you look further up this thread you'll possibly be able to find it online ;)
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Or the way they said that Deicide pioneered death metal...

yeah.. after about 100 other bands from Florida did it first.

Didn't Glen Benton predict years ago he'd die at the age of 33? I take it this didn't happen.
  • edited November 2005
Yes he did. He said he'd kill himself when he was the same age as Jesus when he died.

He claims he's at a different point in his life now.

    GG Alin

yeah - I'm not a fan, taking a dump onstage, throwing said dump at audience. Attacking audiemce during perfomances. Ramming a mic so hard into his face it broke teeth.

    Stupid.

In other news, I am diasspointed. I bought a Red Abyss c.d on eBay, thinking that it might sound like some sort of early / prototype / embryonic Rockbitch.

    It's rubbish.

I actually like Rockbitch - regardless of their nuddy on stage shananigans.

Whore of Satan - is a catchy tune.

But, I don't like Red Abyss - it's pop drivel thus far ( I 'm not all the way through the CD yet)

the only link between the two bands, is some similarities in dress, and album covers.

    Rockbitch are great :)

Pity it's really difficult to find their CDs.

You might be interested in MT-TV. It's most of the Rockbitch members, but toned down. They sound pretty much the same.
