*.cab files in c:/_restore/archive
One question: is it possible to delete *.cab files from c:/_restore/archive folder (WindowsMe)?
Some of them contain viruses and my antivirus
program says it can't erase viruses in *.cab file.

It's been a while, but I don't think ME will let you mess with that directory directly. Before now, I've had to boot from a Win98 floppy to get rid of stuff in there...

Under winME you may have to manually delete the problematic file whilst system restore is disabled (I'm not sure, as I haven't used it for five years)
Under XP however, the above procedure seems to autmatically destroy the problematic files anyway, which is nice :)
The problem stems from the fact that (a) system restore auto-backs up any malware for your convenience, and (b) it maintains an exclusive lock on all files in the _restore folder, whilst it is running.
Anyway, as I say, just stop system restore, (right click on "My Computer" > "Properties", or "system" applet in Control Panel IIRC.) Then you, or any AV program will have no problem deleting these awkward files.

** Any advice given by me on a Satruday nigght is not strictly valid & not liable for prosecution.
Second...take your Windows Me disc out into the back garden and set fire to it. :D
Third...Install a good OS.
Fourth...If the new OS has a system restore. Switch it off.
Prob solved :)
I've switched off "system restore" and *.cab files are no more!
I owe you a beer ;)

Since the only really good computer to which I have access still uses WinME, I know the feeling. :( Still, the above is enlightening -- I always wondered what "to burn a CD" meant.
