Yes, there's a Speccy emulator for the GBA available, but I don't know how it works. The CSS FAQ will mention it probably. Mind you that most of the speccy games don't work properly since they need a keyboard of course...
I'm not sure if it's connected to an emu, but I managed to download Manic Miner and Auf Wiedersehen Monty for the GBA. Probably there's something like Speccy -> GBA converter software.
And TKrap will probably claim that he programmed a GBA emulator for the Speccy. ;)
Yes there exists.. and is PRETTY COOL.. I got Doom, fucked Marios and more games but I play more to speccy games than others..
Vast majority of 48k games works fine (I only noted that JoffaSmifff games dont works =(
More over you can (may infact) to redefine keys.. its cool believe me.
but itsnt commercial.. you need a blank cartridge and a cartridge writer "FlashLinker".. youll find at www.liksang.com
also, emulator and more details (and better explained than my poor english) youll find at http://foon.pocketheaven.com/
AH!! also I recommend you http://gbxemu.com/
where youll able to find roms
Why not just buy a 'clip-on' light, readily aailably from GAME etc ... its not as neat as an afterburner, but requires no messing about with soldering irons, and does not eat batteries!!!
Having said that, the Afterburner probably does the job better!

Alas, I decided after just one evening that the GBA sucks. :(
I thought it was back-lit, it isn't. It hurts my eyes to look at, I can only find one room in the house with decent enough lighting (the kitchen).
I bought it from GAME, who have a no-quibble refund policy, so it's going back tommorrow.
anyway Doom2 its a very dark game, and Namco classics has lot of dark areas with little sprites (I guess)..
that afterburner light looks like a solution ..
What? My Spectrum games don't work on a GBA???
My GBA games don't even work on a GBA!!!
LOL!
