WoS on mobile!

World of Spectrum (www.worldofspectrum.org) works great on any mobile with wap/web integrated browser.
How about to create special page dedicated to iPAQs and mobiles?
That would be great!

Been using all sorts of WoS sections on my Nokia 770 whilst researching and it works like a dream!

It would be good if someone could have a look at my website on any mobile phones, PDAs etc. It knows how to handle AvantGo, and it also knows if it's running on a Sony PSP but I have no idea how it behaves on other devices?

Smartphones are quickly catching up with normal PCs in terms of web browsing, the screens are getting close to VGA resolution so along with a bit of sideways scrolling you can look at normal websites almost totally normally with the latest models. Some of the latest smartphones even come with support for flash, which is pretty good if you fancy playing a game.

In five years time, there'll probably be no point in doing separate mobile versions because phones will be able to display websites exactly like normal PCs.

Agreed. WAP was a terrible solution and had built-in obsolecience.

The 770 uses WVGA - 800x480 - and no horizontal scrolling needed for most sites.

Yes, works great on my SonyEricsson K600i althrought too wide formatted... I mean, special sub-page (let's say www.worldofspectrum.org/pda could be created crafted especially for small mobile phone screens and/or iPAQs/PDAs.
    How about that?

Thankfully, my site is written to W3C standards, and is PDA aware already. If the mobile device views the standard site okay, then that's great. If it doesn't, then I just have to add one entry (a specific browser agent detection entry) into the code and it will display in a friendlier PDA layout instead.

I'll see if I can find the relevant code for your device to make it switch to the PDA view.

    If you go to:

    http://www.birdsanctuary.co.uk/detect.php

...you should see what the browser string is. Send that to me or post it here and I'll see what I can do!

This applies to anyone else who tries to view my site on a mobile or PDA who thinks the standard web version doesn't quite look right.

Just go to the URL below and send me the browser string you get from the page.

The PDA version has a different layout, but the content is the same. The AvantGo version doesn't include the screenshots as they would consume the channel size in seconds! ;)
