Jet Set Willy Mobile Phone Game

Has anyone seen this?:
http://www.sports.co.uk/games/260452/Jet_Set_Willy.htm

"A pixel perfect remake of the classic sequel to Manic Miner that plays just like 1984 was here again, only without the big hair and luminous socks. One of the most eagerly anticipated releases on mobile!"

6 quid? At least Dick Turpin wears a mask. I bet Matt Smith doesn't see a penny of that either.

i've played it and its poor. the fundimental flaw is that JSW is hard enough with a keyboard and a fullscreen and having neither of those makes it horrible to play.

Ancient Empires 1 was greatness. 2 is also really good but level 3 is impossibly difficult!

From the game description ... "Join Miner Willy and the staff for their first new adventure in twenty years, race a total of ten cars over ten tracks, bumping, bashing and crashing your way into the lead."

"...Miner Willy and staff..." so I guess it's going to be just Willy and Maria racing then. Not much fun.

What about Andr? the chef and the mad scientist Dr. Jones? :)

I've not played it, but I did download the publicity material from http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jetsetracing/ .
One of the desktop wallpapers shows the six characters you can play as: Willy, Maria, Andre, Brian (the robot from the Central Cavern), Brother Geoff (a monk from the Forgotten Abbey) or Baz (a monkey from At The Foot Of The Megatree).

Being the fella who wrote both the JSW remake and Jet Set Racing, here's a few answers:

"I bet Matt Smith doesn't see a penny of that either."

I don't know details about this but if you read the transcript of Matt's interview at Nottingham's Screenplay Festival you'll see that he did.

"i've played it and its poor"

It's a pretty spot-on remake of the original. Here's one of the beta testers completing the game.

"anyone played this 'jet set racing'"

Here's a grab of the game on a Nokia 6230.

    Hehe.. its bugfree! :)

"does jsw still have the atic bug?"

It would've been fitting to have the user type in all of the pokes but no, the attic bug is gone, along with infinite death scenarios. The game is still far too hard though, and even with the snapshot feature it takes more patience than I have to actually finish it.

hows the infinite death gone then?
    you fall and........
you start safely in the screen below?

"hows the infinite death gone then?"

The state of the game is saved whenever the player is on a 'safe' block (on of features in the editor). When the player dies everything is rolled back to the safe point. It works better than flagging a single restart position (like Ian Collier's fix), and is guaranteed not to put the player in a situation they can't get out of.

Ok, I take back what I said. AFAIK, Matt didn't see any money when Jester did their Manic Miner remake, so I thought it'd be the same in this case.

I got the chance to play it, but it feels a bit weird at first. Maybe it's because the room is not at the size of the screen but you have to move around it with scrolling...
I appreciate the "invincibility-blinking period" after death, but e.g. The Cold Store really sucks because you can't see the rope until it has swung near you, so you have to time it...

    Nontheless it's a good remake :)

Funnily enough my latest JSW remake which I've been working on for almost 3 years now (I'm too paranoid to finish it incase it's crap) has a room in it called "Don't make Andre angry!". It has the chef in it and also a horizontal version of the chef which I drew for another game (7 Days in the Sun day 1) in about 2003 (I never released that game to the general public, there is a Beta copy at the MMJSWyahoo group though).
