Freeview gets a movie channel

edited February 2006 in Chit chat
Well freeview is going to get a free to air movie channel and its going to be channel four's filmfour one which at the moment is a pay channel, although when it goes free to air on freeview the movies will have advert breaks :(, I hope the channel dont have one of those channnel idents in the top corner.
All freeview needs now is a premiership, coca cola championship football TUTV ( like the Setanta scottish football ) channel and its goodbye mr murdock

Can't they just use a sky reciever and dish without paying for any sky channels ??

About time Freeview had a film channel. Sports next - BBC's extended coverage of the Olympics plus other sporting events has been fantastic, but there should be a free equivalent of Eurosport, even if it's just repeats.

will film four become free for sky viewers too then?

seems a bit dodgy if not

It'll probably be treated the same as E4, however that was treated when it was freed.

Although, to me, it sounds a tad biased the logic above is not far off and factually (re what Sky actually is) is AFAIK correct.

For many years I have been telling people not to bother with with Sky and get a movable dish with a decent decoder. You will get your money back in 12 months and not have to pay for a single channel.

There was a gltich with my old cable box, and I got Film Four plus one for free for about a year. :D

I got shot of the cable box and switched to Freeview when they put an end to the glitch.

    Interesting link.

I liked this bit "word to the wise: if you want a few months subscription free, or to bump up your package, call them up and tell them you?re getting Freeview or NTL instead)"

That and the ability to be recieved across the country. If my folks want freeview Mr Murdock is their only option.

You can get free digital satellite, although it doesn't have any of the Sky pay channels of course.

I think the BBC is going to do a publicity campaign about it later this year.

yeah apperently it also works if you tell them you cant afford the bill or have a knackered box........unfortunately the missus paid them ?65 for an engineer to come and look at ours instead of pesuading them into giving us a free box......we got a box out of the engineer so was like buying a new box anyway, still waaaaaaaay better than paying that monthly insurance thing, how much would you have paid when your box knackers? ?200/?300/?600?? not really worth it, just buy a new box if it knackers

Apparantly channel five are going to be bringing 2 new channels to freeview this year Five.2 and Five.3

    good link ADJB

Don't you think it could be possible for someone to outbid sky for the rights to the premiership and then put a tutv premiership channel on freeview, people would have to buy a tutv freeview reciever o course, but if Leeds were in the prem then i would definitely get it, I aint ever had sky cause i never wanted to pay for channels that i would never watch.

If Film 4 is going to be free i dont give a monkeys whether it has a logo in the top right hand corner or not, so many channels have that now i'm not too fussed by it.

Have Sky myself but it'll be great for freeview etc if they get a decent film channel.

Cant stand Sky but have no choice as i have to have the sports specially with super Reading in the premiership next season !
