MAME help....please!

edited February 2006 in Chit chat
I'm haveing a bit of trouble with the new MAME. I've just updated to 0.104 using MAME32plus. My brother downloaded the wrong one by mistake...but it works ok apart from these 2 problems:

1) Many of my Neo-Geo games now run too fast. Metal Slug runs fast, but then slows down when it gets busy (I know this slow down is supposed to happen as it was like that on the original hardware). I can't seem to slow them down to the correct speeds. (my old version of mame seems to now run them fast too

2) I've just downloaded the History.dat file from the like on the MAME homepage, but, I've no idea where to put it! I can't seem to get it to work no matter where I place the Zip file.

I've read alot of trouble shooting and forum guides about these two things, but they all seem to be useless

Any help wouls be great!

Thanks!

have you tried changing the frameskip function thats all i can think of for the speed issue.

history.dat goes in the main mame folder.

once its in you need to go to 'view' in Mame itself and tick next to 'history' (there are other options for screenshots, cabinet, marquee and control panel.

as for the speed thing, no idea. especially if frameskip is set to zero.

as well as updating Mame you also have to update your roms, there not like roms for other emulators, they have version numbers to.

Sorry I can't help, but you might be better off posting on the official MAME forums, at:

    http://www.mame.net/

    or

    http://www.mameworld.net/

or at an emulator site's forums, such as:

    zophar.net

Good luck! And make sure Mr Do! works, as it's the best arcade game ever. And one of the few arcade games that never had a decent version on the Spectrum, grrr!

I've put the history file in the right place, but it still doesn't work  It's the most upto date version as well!

I only got Metal Slug a short while ago, but I try a newer version.

Thanks for the links, but I'd alredy looked there and couldn't find the answers I needed. That's why I put it on here. You guys can be really helpful :D

    Thanks for the help!

You did unzip history.dat first before placing it?

You could always downgrade to the previous version of MAME. I had to stick with using one particular release of MAME for yonks, after they broke the emulation for Sega games like Outrun, Super Hang-On etc ... and didn't fix it for several releases, the buggers.

I'm too having probs with the current version. All my games ,including Bubble Bobble, run far too slow! I think I'll just use the previuos version.

Winkawaks in a good emulator for Neo Geo, CPS1 and CPS 2 Roms and it has some cool features like macro record where you can have ryus dragon punch move mapped to a single key press it also has online play via kallera. I prefer using this than mame for metal slug and knights of the round.
