Name the arcade

edited March 2006 in Chit chat
I've just rediscovered MAME; the last time I tried it, there was only support for a few old games, but now it seems to support almost every arcade machine.

So I'm currently after those games I used to play during early 90s (I think I spent half of my adolescence in the arcades). I've already found a lot of them either by their names or by browsing through screenshots, but there are a couple of games I just can't find.

So I'll ask about them here and see what happens :)

One of the games was about elves, dwarfs or something. You jumped around a world full of plants and mushrooms and stuff. When you died and the continue screen appeared, there was a fairy with tears in her eyes, saying "Please, please, insert more coins or our beautiful world will be wiped out by the evil king Uberbast" or some similar crappy emotional blackmail. I also remember that the power bar was labelled "STAMINA"; I used to find that word funny.

The other one was about bashing punks in the streets, quite similar to Double Dragon, Final Fight, etc. One of the weapons you could pick up was a baseball bat; when you hit someone with it, he went flying and crashed onto the wall with a big noise, very funny. There were also those guys in black leather who, ahem, "molested" you if you weren't careful and let them approach from the rear. Pity I can't remember the name of this game, I invested a lot of coins in it.

The first one sounds like Willow. a Spin off from the abysmal film.

The second one, I'm pretty certain its an IREM game, can't remember the name though. Sorry.

Sorry to sound obvious but you have clicked on the options to show the various type of games

Eg beat em up etc ? Find where Double Dragon is, what category its in then have a scroll down all of those similar games (if you have screenshots downloaded) and try to find it.

Love going through looking for games i've never really played much before. Only just discovered Metal Slug, excellent cartooney type of Green Beret game

Not too sure about the first game. The second one sounds like Vendetta. I'd also highly recomend "Violent Storm". It's a great Final Fight rip off with fantastic music!

A good site for MAME game info is http://caesar.logiqx.com/ it's good for browsing games by year/Manufacturer etc. It also gives you history info and what ROMS are needed.

Well completed Mercs last night. I love Commando style games and this ones pretty good, obviously kept using tons of credits !

The later levels are pretty good, pity the Speccy version was dire.

Since this topic is called "name the arcade"i could use a little help...It s about a beat`em up game with the title which i forgot. It s been made in the early 90`s.You can chose betveen 3 fighters. It s a classical left to right ,beat everyone who come across game with a boss at the end of each level.Only thing that i remember about this game is that the boss at the end of 1 level was a Bruce Lee lookalike, who said ,before the duel "you ,die" :p
You fight him on the top of a cable car.
I also remember that ,if u grabbed your enemy you could throw him really high in the air ,while pressing punch and kick at the same time :D
Anyone has any clue about the game title?

Sorry for not answering before, my hard disk crashed last Monday :( Sigh... my data... It took me years to hoard all those gigabytes of rubbish, and now they're gone...

Well, at least I got the correct answers! The first one is Blue's Journey; I haven't played it yet but saw the screenshots. Thanks Jmk!

The second one is Vendetta, although I've just played it and the sado-maso guys doesn't seem to appear anywhere. However I'm sure it's Vendetta, I remember the game pretty well. Maybe I should try all the versions of the game. God bless you Bermondsey Bob and devilkin! :)

That's a good idea, I didn't think of it because the sites where I look for games have their lists in alphabetical order.
