Space Crusade Instructions

edited May 2006 in Games
I've been playing a bit of Space Crusade and HeroQuest during my lunch breaks at work, and one annoying thing is that there's no instructions for Space Crusade. Or rather the ones that exist on WOS are not typed-up, and are in Spanish anyway.
Now I'm fairly certain that I've seen the full instructions for Space Crusade somewhere - had a quick look this morning, but couldn't find them... I'll look again later.
However, I do have a set of PC instructions as a .PDF (legit too - came with the game). While some of the details will be different (saving/loading progress, etc), I think the specifics of gameplay look pretty much the same - there's detail of the "commands", "inventory items", stuff like that.
So, would it be worthwhile uploading it to WOS? As I say, it's the PC (and Amiga too, I think) version, but may come in handy.
Hopefully I'll track down the proper ZX instructions sometime.

Just a thought.

Probably, mainly anyone who is not familiar with the game would need to know what the icons for the various order's mean. That's one thing that would be hard to figure out on your own.

Cool game, played the tabletop version. Computer version has the advantage of some cool stuff not as easy to do on the table, like having the vacuum of space overwhelm a hulk. Oh, and being able to hack the maps with a Multiface :)

loved the game in all its guises, and the tabletop one was cool too.

I think i prefared the table top one best though.

did play it again recently, wasn't too bad figuring it out, but guess it was cos i was used to it. ;)

    hero quest kicked ass too.

i remember me and my brother had a choice of a joint present it was either subuteo or heroquest. we chose the later. maybe that why i'd prefare watching LOTR's rather than a football game.

I've never played it. It's definitely one game I must try out. I used to love Heroquest though. I used to play the board game and the Atari ST version a lot and I still do occasionally. :)

    Necros.

they should have hero quest in town centres, instead of chess and checkers. it might encourage kids not to hang around shopping centres.

I pefered Hero Quest to Space Crusade...

Incidentally, there's an error in the SPOT comments for Space Crusade - Nigel Mansell's World Championship is actually Gremlin's last Speccy game.

I have the instructions typed up but without all the screenshots done yet, I was planning to make a PDF from OpenOffice.

Aah that would be great - much better than getting the PC version uploaded
One of these days I'll play the game while actually knowing what I'm doing. Nice.

    Now uploaded to WoS.

Nice stuff. But (cry cry) I don't have permission to get it 'til it's outta the "incoming" directory... never mind, I've been playing it every lunchtime at work recently, I think I know how it goes. Hehe.

Shouldn't be too long before it's available, but in the meantime I've put it at http://www.crashonline.org.uk/temp/SpaceCrusade.pdf .

Let me know if there are any typos and I'll fix them. (I've kept the original spelling of "hilight".)

Using this as a place to report typos (or rather, scanno's), first one I've spotted is on page 20, in the section on the "Close Assault" order:
"Any of your marines armed with betters may fire..."
Guess that's on OCR thing - should be "bolters".
I'll post more as I spot them.

Top stuff, btw. Knowing what the icons actually mean certainly helps when playing the game

Thanks. I've corrected that in my local copy.

I'll wait a few more days before uploading a corrected version, in case you find any more.

I'm on a course all this week at work, so I'll print it out and read through it during the dull parts ;)

Annoyingly my course this week is actually quite interesting. Add to that the fact that I'm a slow reader anyway (but that doesn't mean I'm stupid, roight!?), and I'm getting there slowly.
Hope these don't come across as too picky :-)

Few "scanno's" on the first few pages to get you started.
    • Page2, para6: Couple FullStops should probably be commas in 1st and 2nd lines.
    • Page2, "Assaulting Space Hulks": end of section 1, ", The" should be ". The", and "info" should be "into".
    • Page3, para1: "re urns" should probably be "returns".
    • Page3, para3: "Don't worry. everything...", should prolly be a comma.
    • Page4: may be worth shifting the table slightly - not a problem either way, but if you're making changes anyway ;)
    • Page5, para1: "their weapons. equipment..." should prolly be a comma.
    • Page6, para4: "chapter, Otherwise..." should prolly be a fullstop.
    • Page6, para6: "per turn, If there..." should prolly be a fullstop.
    • Page7, para5: "rolled. It the total..." should prolly be "If".
    • Page8, para3: "points, If..." should prolly be a comma.
    • Page8, para3: "score then if is" should prolly be a "it is".
    • Page8, "Eliminating marines": kinda long with no fullstops, so may be worth checking against the original.
That's as far as I've got with the proof-reading. More to come.

Hehe. Aren't I a picky bugger. Thanks again for the work on the manual - I also now understand why some of my shots don't do their job. The PC manual was helpful, this one is fantastic!

Man, I did a pretty crappy job of checking that through didn't I?
  • edited April 2006
    Lol.
We can blame it on a corrupt download if you like *cough*.

Shift it where? To the left of the page?

I'll left-align the subheadings "Rank", "Order/s" etc. too.

Ah yeah, I just meant that the table columns didn't quite line up (at least on my printout). Not a biggy - kinda a result of me being used to reviewing documents at work... and they're not even for release to customers. You wouldn't think it would matter anyway, considering how many manuals I've seen written in Engrish.
    Ho-hum.

OK, I've made a note to correct that.
