what about little bit more Speccy look?
    http://art.speccy.cz/foto/zxforum.png

(there?re two types of Speccy logo used, intentionally and color scheme changed)

The second one looks familiar, did you by any chance swipe the idea from my site? ;)

It does like he has gamestaged the image from you :-)

However, you have no deniencied message on your site, so it's a free for all.

Edit - on your site, you might want to mention that Jet Set Willy had two versions. The other version had 'in the hall of the mountain king' instead of 'fiddler on the roof'. I believe there was a copyright issue.

If you read that page carefully, you'll see that it already mentions both versions. :p :D

It doesn't actually. :) It does mention JSW2 (which was written by Derrick P. Rowson incidentally) but not the alternate version of JSW1 (which contains 'In The Hall Of The Mountain King' as the in-game tune).

Nope. You have JSW & JSWII.

There were two versions on JSW with different music.:p

    Yup. Works on IE too.

I was using firefox, but I just switched to the Mozilla suite today & it works in that too. I haven't changed any of the settings in either, and the both work fine.

Hmm, odd. A quick googling shows I'm not the only one with this problem in vBulletin.

Edit: ah, it's OK if I disable Javascript and log in, then re-enable Javascript.

Well well well, if it isn't good ol' Ed "I don't drink no pineapple juice" Duffy! Good to see ya back!

Now then, we are *still* waiting for the English translation of La Abadia Del Crimean (hope i got that right). You didn't think we would forget that did you? ;)

The Crimean Abbey, hmmm! :) Populated by half-Russian/half-Spanish monks. :)

oh, you´ve got a speccy site?! :-o eggsellent!!!
gotta browse it a little, glad to know a new fact in this world

nope, that type of logo wasn´t gamestaged from you - it´s standard crayon drawing made in corel, looked better than other drawing techniques that I´ve tried... and the one on your site looks more like a sprayed drawing :)
anyhow you´ll draw the speccy logo - always it´ll be those familiar four diagonal spectrum stripes, just the artistic technique can be altered :-P

p.s. just after brief ´take-a-look´ at your site: you can add info for soundtrack in Booty - which I´ve found out from where was it taken ;)

Yup, I created that logo (in Paint Shop Pro) by doing the word "Spectrum" in 72pt Arial Black, inverting the selection, and airbrushing the Speccy stripes over it. :) (The c.s.s. poster who commented on it, circa 1999, said that the result looked as if the stripes were done in coloured chalk.)

Which Corel program did you use -- PhotoPaint, Print House, or what?

It's taken me a little while to get used to it, but I really like the forum's new look and feel.

Is there any chance of a hyperlink at the top of each forum page to get back to the main WOS index?
I'm just too lazy to scroll down to the bottom of the page or navigate through my favourites ;)

    Thanks!

You could try clicking the large "FORUMS" graphic at the top left of each page?

    photopaint, corel 11
though adobe photoshop (and other adobe products too) is slightly better and definitely much more reliable than the corel products, but due to a habit it was done in photopaint
(ergh, I?m still confused when have to name the programs correctly - always substituting shop wit paint)

Any chance that somebody could look into whether there are problems using the forum in Safari? The submit post button often does nothing for me and some of the pages render incorrectly.

*edit* Submit post seems to be working consistently now, Sinclair Miscellaneous still looks a mess. I'm guessing there is some work being done on the forum so please disregard my post in that case*edit*

That's indeed the complete set at this moment!

    To be more precise:
    • Junior Member: 0 posts
    • Member: 30 posts
    • Sinclair User: 500 posts
    • Manic Miner: 1000 posts
    • Advanced User Simulator: 2000 posts
    • Elite: 3000 posts

Not sure if this is a bug or not but here goes....

A couple of days ago I had 1000+ posts and was classed as "Manic Miner", today, after Andy cleared a load of posts from Auction tracking, I am still "Manic Miner" but have fallen well below the 1000 posts required.

Might be a bug, might be a config error.

    Looks fine to me.
Prolly just required that you made a new post to update the counters, or something.

The problems with the forums and Safari are still persisting. Sinclair Miscellaneous take a minimum of 2 refreshes to get a page which renders correctly and the submit post button doesn't seem to work a lot of the time.

How do you delete a post you made to start a new thread, that you made in error, probably due to having consumed too much wine?

I can delete posts made to existing threads, put for some reason cannot see how to do it for the first post in a new thread.

Is deletion of first posts disabled for users because doing so would delete the entire thread? Probably a good idea, if this is the reason...

One can always delete the contents of that first post, perhaps using the funky new Reason For Editing box to state "I dunno why I posted, I was really drunk at the time"...[*]

You should be allowed to delete the post though, if there's been no replies, as was in my case.

Hmm, am I blind or is there no "Show New Posts Since Last Visit" link or option on this forum ? I have seen other forums which use the same engine which have this option... am I missing something or ?
  • edited April 2006
Click the "New Posts" tab for a list of threads that have been updated, then click on the down-arrow next to each subject to take you to the next unread post.

    How is a view defined?

I think this version of vBulletin only increments the view counter for a thread on unique views -- e.g. a particular user looking at a thread 5,000 times is only counted as one "view".

Don't know how it handles Guest views. :) Perhaps those aren't counted at all?
