Great Giana Sisters on CPC
Hmm, I just noticed how similar the CPC version of Great Giana Sisters looks to the ZX Spectrum screenshots. The status table with its fonts and style is vritually the same as the CPC one. The size of the screen of the CPC version would fit the ZX one perfectly... the CPC one has NO SOUND at all. All in all - it would look like they did the two versions in parallel and just changed the graphics for the ZX one. It would also mean that the ZX one would be gradually faster - much less stuff to move around.
A shame not even a beta of this is available, but by playing the CPC version you can imagine what the ZX one would play like.

never thought this was in process of being converted to Speccy... I loved it on c64 (great sound fx/tunes)
but... if you?ll read the notes from mags, the rewievers?ve had to check some demo versions ... can anyone find it lost in the drawers??
Let's call the CSI
Poor - You are joking, right?

Do try the CPC version on Caprice32 or Arnold emulator, then try the c64 version and you will see what I mean...

Very playable game on the C64 and one of the best
Well, that's you and... erm... are you lonely over there...? =-)
Erm... they got into shedloads of trouble... that's why the Speccy version didn't materialise and copies of the C64 and Amiga versions get the "r@r3 l00k!!!1one" treatment on eBay and rack up some quite serious totals; it was banned and pulled from sale.
Rainbow Arts were good at this, Katakis had the same thing happen when Activision (who had the rights to R-Type) noticed that it was very similar...! The deal that was struck saw Katakis "reorganised" and relabeled as Denaris for release whilst the developers (Manfred Trenz for the C64 version, Factor 5 for the Amiga) agreed to do the official port of R-Type; Trenz knocked the C64 version out in a mere six weeks (i think Factor 5 had the same time, but they had a team on it) which explains why, although being a good bit of blasting in it's own right, it's not very accurate as a port of R-Type!
I know the story about how it was pulled and that they got into a shit load of trouble over it. I was just saying that I was amazed that they THOUGHT they could get away with it :p
I'll boot my my C64 emulator and give it another go, but when I last played it (about a week ago), I totally failed to "get it".
Same way that a lot of companies got away with similar before the fact... they just had some of the worst timing ever seen in the games industry... =-)
There's not much to get really, it's a straight SMB rip-off... but that's where it scores, the levels are well laid out, the difficulty curve is pretty much spot on if you like a challenge and it has cute stuff going on. =-)
I only really played the amiga version(the best version imo), but the c64 one didn't look bad either.
It was a professional looking platformer with good music.
I have to say though, i'd rather play super mario world on the snes anyday of the week.
Now that was the ultimate 2d platformer.
