Spitting Image

edited June 2006 in Sinclair Miscellaneous
Here's a date for your calendar if you can receive UK TV stations.

On Sunday 25 June there is the following
ITV1 10:00 p.m. - New documentary on Spitting Image.
ITV4 11:00 p.m. - First episode.
ITV4 11:30 p.m. - Last episode.

The documentary reveals something I never knew before. Sir Clive was the main financial contributor to the formation of the "Spitting Image" project which helped the careers of numerous comedy writers and voices.

They repaid his kindness by creating the puppet that adorns Sinclair User No. 45 and lampooning him mercilessly but I expect that was part of the deal.

I caught this in Saturday's TV schedules then searching the Web I found this

I suppose that if you have just received a knighthood from the Queen in Mrs. Thatcher's honours list and are trying to sell to America then you wouldn't want to shout that you funded a Nancy Reagan puppet and went on to finance Mrs. Thatch and her entire cabinet in latex and the entire Royal Family in rubber too.

Gawd, imagine if they wrote something like that these days ?
It'd be taken off the air before we knew it. Everything too PC these days, it does my tree in... doh that was offensive to trees :-p

Yes. Trees are in fact small plants of alternative but no less valid vertical attainment.

I do not think that differentiating between 'differently achieving' plants is at all constructive, and can lead to organical discriminatory practices.

I heard a rumour that Spitting Image was coming back for a brand new series...

Except that's just not true. Satire is as scathing today as it has ever been.

The listings have now appeared online at itv.com for June 26 10:00 pm
and the program might not be as revealing as the producer John Lloyd's revelations in the Weekend Mail and the 2002 article.

    The Best of Spitting Image
"Ant and Dec (as they've never been seen before) celebrate the puppet parodies and latex lampoonery of the 11-year series that sent up famous faces from politics, sport and showbiz - including Margaret Thatcher, John Major and the royal family. Featuring interviews with victims Bob Geldof, Neil Kinnock, Steve Davis, Trevor McDonald and Chris Eubank. Both the first and last episodes follow on ITV4."

I expect Clive's puppet will be there though.

I did notice also that the Ali G film is on ITV2 tonight although I doubt that he performs as well with a script as he does without one.
