Spectrum Music - Remixes?

edited May 2010 in Games
Anyone know of any sites that have remixes of spectrum music?
Project AY is devoted to releasing the original music from the games and i've looked on a few sites like OverClocked ReMix and VGMix but with no real success. There are remixes for many C64 tunes and some CPC Tunes, but nothing specificaly Spectrum.
It'd be great to hear some remixes of tunes from the Spectrum such as Glider Rider & Saboteur II. Anyone know of any or is anyone on this site willing to take up the challenge to remix some Spectrum tunes?

AY-Riders released an album with AY tunes on, one of which was a song by Tatu. Then someone released a track of the original mixed with the AY version.

Not quite what you want, but there you go.

Interesting, i'll have a lookie on Demotopia and see whats about.

Not sure it's available on demotopia.
It was originally mentioned on raww.org but I think the links no longer work. I'll see if I have it on my machine at home, but that will be much later today.

Magic, if you do have it around i'd be interested in hearing it.
Shame the ayriders homepage has gone.

    It's here:
    30 Minut Tatu/AY Mix (MP3, 4Mb)

Some stuff of mine that could vaguely be considered remixes of Speccy music, in ascending order of weirdness:
Freedom (MP3, 1.7Mb - original by LaesQ, from Kraft Megademo I think)
Super Scramble Sim A Cappella Remix (OGG, 1.5Mb)
Barberchip (MP3, 1Mb - 2nd place at the Alternative Party 2005 Telephone Hold Music competition)

Hey that barbershop tune is pretty rad!

I've been trying to do up a Frank Frazetta tune from demo 2 but there's something very weird about it - seems to be right inbetween two tempo values and whatever I do it goes out of synch. Fucking annoying I can tell you. Its even defeated the RECYCLE utility for REASON 3 - it plays to its own tempo... and it keeps shifting!

To be honest theres not that many great tunes originally summoned up on a Speccy that could be 'tweaked' in a big boys studio [ducks for cover]

didi you try AY land Radio?
G! - That makes sense in BASIC 0:1

here's a couple of my speccy remixes that i never had anywhere to post....

    http://www.djcresswell.com/album/MP3/Horace303-HoraceGoesRaving.mp3

stupid tune loosely based on the sound of Horace jumping in "spiders". feature heavy use of 8-bit amiga samples. take very not-seriously.

    http://www.djcresswell.com/album/MP3/Horace303-Nightshade.mp3

remix of the wonderful tune from Nightshade.... with a sort of "hammer horror" edge.

    Thanks for the links folks.

    Did someone mention http://www.speccy.cz ?

There are both Glider Rider and Saboteur II remixes. :-)

By the way, Saboteur II remix is really top-notch.

cant find the saboteur 2 remix... unfortunatelly...

I've always thinked that of all games saboteur 2 would give a very nice action movie (well it would have probably pulled off better in the 80's...) and I've always imagined how cool would that tune be played by an orchestra!(or even on a sort of early carptenter type of movie!)

    saboteur 2 remix is here

heard it before off some other site i think.... not bad, though that's a very Pet Shop Boys bassline!

have to agree it'd work beautifully in the 80's Carpenter style!!

top tune mind you.... must remix it myself sometime.

--- actually, looking though the tunes they have, i think these are largely c64 remixes where the speccy tune happens to be roughly the same.... Bruce Lee on the speccy is much more hardcore than the version on there!

    Nobody mentioned this...

    :)

I would've put that on Overclocked, but they have strict rules, and one of them is no classical music that was used as game music to be remixed :( It still gets me that they didn't have any Speccy remixes on there at all when I last checked it.

that's such a dumb rule, given that they are the tunes for which you can guarentee no copyright, due to their age.

it's because of silly things like that, and the fact that (compared to other sites) the average quality of remixes is so poor (compare it to amigaremix.com and it looks terrible!) that i dont bother uploading my speccy remixes to OC.

    nice chuntey tune BTW ;)

I might try and do one of the Tim Follin tunes at some point. It would be nice to listen to without the "vacuum cleaner full of nails" effect.
I`ve done AgentX2 before and lost it because of a disk failure. I`m doing it again. I retuned the original to G and eq`d it here AgentX2 GMinor

So far I`ve got most of the basic bass line down here AgentX2 midi BassLine, although it still needs some tweaking. I can play the lead solo on guitar, so I`m just doing the bass and drums in midi for now, adding the rythmn guitar and lead guitar later, and maybe a real bass guitar afterwards. I don`t have much time to work on it, so does someone want to add the drum track?

    Thanks
Edit: Done some of the lead guitar in midi, changed link to midi above.

OC Remix NEEDS some Spectrum remixes on there. If we can get some on there, perhaps other people will take note and maybe listen to some of the old beeper and AY stuff and actually do a remix.

I grabbed a Thundercats remix from vgmix.com thats more of a euro-pop dance track. It's good, but i always thought that a Thundercats remix should be more rock inspired.

Some good remixes on http://www.speccy.cz/ though, but not a good rock inspired Thundercats one.

Anyway, thinking about it anyone up for doing some remixes and posting them?
    I'm thinking of these games:

    Terramex
    Thundercats (rock version needed!!!)
Glider Rider (yes, there is one on www.speccy.cz, but how about one that doesn't make me think of SID :;)
    Bear-a-Grudge (best SU covertape imo)

I'll need to think of more :)

Personally speaking (I know this music stuff is very subjective and all), but my absolute favourite game tune ever, in the whole history of Speccy music (and I think chip music in general), is Xenophobe by Barry Leitch. A remix of that would be excellent :)

    Necropost GO^W^W Here's one for Quazatron: http://rghost.net/1543110
I've left the song structure unchanged from the original so this is rather short though.

I was about to post the same link. Saw it on Speccynews last week. Some nice remixes, makes me wonder how Tim Follin remixes would sound like.
