Sorry to invade your forum here but I was contacted earlier today by one of your posters here about my game Quiz Master (Atari ST Public Domain). I hadn't realised how many people's games 'Kizza' was trying to take credit for. It's been annoying me for a while that his name appears on my game on the LGD website.
Maybe I should go there and let his tyres down (if he has a car). He can take credit from me for that then too........
It also looks to me like he has knocked together those recent ST images to try and qualify some of his claims.
Though I can hardly imagine ST Format reviewing a text only quiz game in ST Basic which doesn't (as far as I know) have a compiler and giving it a score of 69%. I have the magazine myself and will scan the review.
It may have been a long time since I made my games on the ST, but I still remember the work that went into them even though they were not commercial.
I have the evidence to back myself up and will be posting it on the web very soon (unlike someone else we know).
I'm sorry to say that I missed out on the Spectrum scene as my first computer was an Amtrad CPC464. A couple of my friends had Spectrum's and I remember seeing Elite (notably the protection - lens lok?) and Quazatron in action when I was a youngster.

looking at the pictures provided by Mr. Kizza makes me wonder two things
a:) Did he go to school on the yellow bus
b:) Did he used to lick the glass as well.
I think Mr. Kizza needs to come on the Jeremy Kyle show and we'll do a lie detector and DNA test.
If there is one thing I can't stand, it is liars. Other than to protect someones feelings there is no reason to tell porky pies. And no matter what lie you tell, it will always come back to bite you on the bum.

Yeah here's the link to the titles he's claiming on the ST.
Your dispute about authorship of Quizmaster is in there as a comment and this is what he had to say about Quizmaster later on. I don't know how he could confuse a title reviewed in a magazine with his own -- after all you'd think he would be aware of when and if one of his programs were reviewed someplace. Spooky how both your Quizmasters saw release 1.2.
Fruit Pursuit sounds a little bit odd too. It seems like Richard Davey was the author of the original and then Kieren changed the graphics a bit and came up with Fruit Pursuit. But his comment after Davey's suggests the other way around.... On second reading it looks like Richard Davey is claiming authorship of both versions.
I have this evening finally managed to get my Quiz Master running on an emulator and recorded it in action. Some of the sound messes up, but it works pretty much. Some of the questions are out of date (obviously) and my spelling wasn't always 100%
Should anyone be interested the download is nearly 12mb
Of the games on that link of games he's claiming one is called "Classic Invaders" by Supernova software.
For those who have an emulator its on Pompey Pirates Disc 18v2 , and funnily enough when you run it the words.."coded by D.J.Merifield" in HUGE bastard letters come running across the screen :)
Also Fruit Pursuit is listed in this page... http://www.steverosie.demon.co.uk/games.htm (G193) as being written by "Digital Dimension" who have other games listed (of which he's not claiming) He COULD be Digital Dimension I suppose ... but it seems a bit odd :)
Addition:
It's been a wonderful thing getting access to the Flame Wars section on JSII because I found something real nice. So far it seem their attitude to the incident is to leave the issue because it all happened on another forum and as long as he is honest with them , then hes ok to be a mod.
And then I found his very first post.. and guess what it said ?
"Why don't you all climb out of T-bird's arse. You are all clearly delusional about the value of BSG. Its a good game but not that good. For your information I am not some user from the past with a different name I do actully exist and was one of the key personnel at this years JagFest UK, where incidently we disscussed the BSG topic at length and everybody there agreed it is a rip off (we had it there too as well as some new games you lot havn't seen yet!). I used to write games and have had some published for both the Sinclair Spectrum and Atari ST, things like this are one of the many reasons I became dissalusioned with whole industry. Thankfully now I have 2 very successful businesses of my own here in the U.K."
Oh dear oh dear..... Were they warned or what ? :D
In the face of real concrete information about the game from the real author, he now thinks he will be getting a copy to play on an emulator. I don't think so.
Soccer Supremo is suspicious too -- this title is available for the Spectrum, C64, amiga and probably more platforms. The ST version was *not* the original which kizza seems to imply. I just had a go with the ST version and it's pretty much identical to the Spectrum's. Maybe someone with some more ST sense can stop the program and see if there's a copyright someplace.
Edit: This is the guy that may have written the original Acorn version (text search for soccer supremo).

It doesn't look good but it's still not impossible I suppose.

That'll be me then.
For the record, Was (not was) is just the hacker who compressed it, so it's almost certainly not his game. However, the only reference I could find to any sort of intellectual property was the copyright message for the HiSoft BASIC compiler, so I'm afraid it's inconclusive.
I don't suppose anyone's got a copy of a non-hacked version that they'd like me to have a look at?
By the way, there's a cricket game on the same Automation CD with a similar user interface that, I suspect, was written by the same programmer. There's also a Rugby game on Automation 77 that's yet another variation.
To be honest the Soccer game could be a WIP screeny... they look pretty close.
Im not saying he hasnt written every game in that list..After all |Ive seen some pretty piss poor PD , but clearly there are some serious issues with at least SOME of the titles.
One PD disk that would help is LAPD L-9 which seems to be the only place I can find Space Thrust listed on. But I cant find the disc itself. Anyone know ?
To be honest the Soccer game could be a WIP screeny... they look pretty close.
They look exactly the same to me other than the message from the Automation hacker at the top of the screen.
Still, even the circumstantial evidence doesn't look good: He must have written it aged 11; there are the rugby and cricket games that are obviously written by the same programmer, yet have not been claimed by him on any of the ST websites; and, believe it or not, they were commercial games rather than PD titles too. Given his track record, I find it hard to believe that he wrote them.
To be quite frank though, it's a pretty poor game so he's not exactly gaining much kudos by claiming it. There are some references around to magazine review scores that suggest the games in the series were utterly slated. If I'd had anything to do with them, I'd be quietly disowning it.
Someone else by the name of Kay Downes has claimed a game called Space Thrust too:

Yes Ive played that cricket game now and they are clearly the same engine.
It looks like Kay Downes was trying to upload a review pic in the above link , and managed to get it done here..
Sooo what do we have so far from the famous list ?
Classic Invaders : Writen By D.J.Merrifield
Fruit Pursuit : Claimed by Richard Davey (Digital Dimension)
Quizmaster 1.2 : Writen by djtez (above)
Soccer Supremo : Writen almost certainly by the same author of two other sports titles ( which he hasnt claimed )
Space Thrust : Claimed By Kay Downes
Which leaves us with "Racer".... which he says he first wrote on the ZX Spectrum , and we all know his track record there :D More info on this would be good. All we know so far is that is was reviewed in ST Format issue 76 , Nov 95.
Now we know for sure he's been reading this thread , so before I go on over to the Jagfest forum and spread the good word about your rather shadey reputation Kizza... care to comment ?
No I´ll tell you whats below the belt Palmer. Someone continuing to post insults about other people from the saftey of another forum , and then other moderators of the same forum getting all touchy when someone else has the cheek to turn up and relpy ! Or is name calling only allowed oneway on JSII ?
Fruit Pursuit : Claimed by Richard Davey (Digital Dimension)
Soccer Supremo : Writen almost certainly by the same author of two other sports titles ( which he hasnt claimed )
Soccer Supremo is something he wrote when he was 11 years old and was published on several formats: ST, Amiga, Spectrum, C64 among them. There is no connection to the Acorn author though (checked it out).
I think we have the Richard Davey thing for Fruit Pursuit all wrong. Richard Davey is the maintainer of the "Little Green Desktop" webpages where all these claims are hosted. It sounds as if Richard was contacted by the author of Fruit Pursuit and posted this fact. I think kizza misunderstood the post and claims that Richard Davey only did some graphic changes, when it was actually someone else claiming to write Fruit Pursuit and the previous version Mr. Fruity. Fruit Pursuit was written by Digital Dimension, one of whose members we know for sure and I really doubt kizza had anything to do with it. He's tried to solidify his claim after reading this thread by saying he's found the original game on disk and may write an update. For example he might add "(c) kizza" :-D

So does that make it an actual genuine real MIA speccy game ? Wow ! :D Any idea how this title relates to the other sports games that use the same engine on the ST ? Tweeked and rewritten perhaps ?
Edit : Well the game itself is MIA but its on the pack below , and published by White Panther Software.
So does that make it an actual genuine real MIA speccy game ? Wow ! :D
Yeah, but it's only MIA in the sense that the standalone cassette is missing. You can still play it from the Beau Jolly compilation (third one on side A). Maybe kizza didn't realize this :-D The ST version is almost exactly the same as the Spec version and from the screenshots, it looks like the c64 and Amiga versions are almost exactly the same too.
Just have enough time to pop in and have a good old laugh at this thread! The only thing that would make it better is if ol' Kizza himself would turn up, followed by Gamestage announcing that his site had exclusive distribution rights to all of Kizza's "games".
