Game makers were a bit more cheeky in those days, they even cloned games without permission, either big arcade hits or just straight copies of other people. There's a bit on Jeff Minter's website about his very early career where someone rips off one of this games.

True... but at least he wasn't (as far as I know) re-releasing other people's code with a new title screen. :)
