I am curently living in Poland and purchased from a polish auction site a boxed Timex 2048.

The picture is just perfect at that is from the modulator and as it is offical rather than some of the russian cloes it still has the "speccy" feel.

Highly recomended machine. Try www.allegro.pl

I would be interested if anyone else has one and how they compare it to the orginal speccy.

Darren.

I love my TC2048, with composite out and built in Kempston interface and excellent 48K Spectrum compatibility it is a very useful machine. Not to mention the excellent build quality (feels much more solid that a 48K), and improved graphics modes.

    Fred,

I agree - my one has yellowish keyboard so I am looking for one with a good keyboard before i leave the country.

Do you have any software that uses the extra graphics mode or know where it is on the internet in .tzx format?

There are some demos (a slideshow and "coppper bars"), and the Mscript word processor at least, but next to no software was released that used the extended modes.

For games I think there is a problem that you lose and extra 6K for the display file, then need to have more colourful/deailed graphics that increase the amount of data required somewhat meaning that games would need to be smaller than standard 48K games. Also you have to use more CPU power to move everything about which complicates things further.

It's a challenge I'd love to see someone take up though!

Thanks all for your thoughts, I like the hi res screen shot for the Tc2048.

For now the TC2048 is runs all 48K games with the best video output if have seen.

Hmmm... Timex 2048! Cool Speccy clone I had many years ago. Over 90% of 48k games work without any problems. Few of the not-working games can be fixed - for example "Uridium".
I think there aren't too many Timex-only games or programs. I know one Polish program called "Timex Studio", it's a painting program but it uses hi-res.
ZX Spectrum +2 & PicoDiv SD,
    Timex 2048 & divIDE 57c
