I live 5 minutes' walk from JRR Tolkien.

OK, so it's not brilliant as claims to fame go...

I always though Robin Hood wasn't a real person just a continuation of myths about the man of the forest.

I always though Robin Hood wasn't a real person just a continuation of myths about the man of the forest.

No one knows for sure, he might have been real, but have either false or vastly exagerated acts of kindness and heroism attributed to him - in those days the poor people couldn't read or write, so stories were spread by word of mouth, and probably exagerated, as these things usually are. he might have killed a few corrupt soldiers, and news of this deed spread and was blown up out of all proportion into news of a nobleman who supported the poor and never missed with an arrow. Or most of his alleged deeds might even be true, we'll probably never know. Some things, such as his burial place, his bow and arrow, and even his family on his mother's side (seriously, I read somewhere that her family goes back to the Doomsday Book, though I don't know if the information is correct) are said to be proven to exist, although you'd expect that; it's extremely good both for tourism (and therefore financial income of the area) and also it gives the local area something positive to associate itself with, so of course the locals will swear blind that it's true.

It's the same with the Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot, or the next issue of ZX Shed. No one has actually seen any of these, or even knows if they exist, but some people swear blind to have seen them.

Incidentally, I read in the Sunday Sport last week that Elvis Presley was seen in Burger King reading issue three of ZX Shed. Total cobblers, of course. He must have been reading Retro Gamer, or something.

Myra Hindley page has had to have The Virtual Flowers feature turned off because it was being continually misused.

Robin Hood lived in an omnibus station? You learn something every day here. Was it Trent or Barton? Buses weren't deregulated back then so I bet he died from boredom waiting for a bus back from Nottingham after the sheriff re-routed the service to Mansfield. Broadmarsh bus station was literally just a broad marsh back then so he probably drowned. Or maybe he lost his ticket and was burnt at the stake. Or something.

ewgf, Elvis doesn't read ZX Shed because he doesn't believe it exists. He's actually a Fortean Times reader or at least that's what he told me while we were playing Mire Mare on his Loki the other night.
