    what's that?

I went a few years ago. Spent a fookin fortune. I smoked a bit of dope, but I'm not into that anymore. Got pissed all weekend - very expensive, so take a shit load of money if you wanna drink in the popular places. Saw a lot of sex, but didn't get involved in any. Few of my mates did a few hookers.

Lots of scumbags out there though, so watch yourself as they prey on the newcomers. Had a few try a lot of shit on with me and my mates. Just try and keep your wits about you - which is hard when you are caned and pissed up. I would have gotten into a lot of bother if it wasnt for the fact there were 12 of us.

Was a great laugh though. Just like any European country with a red light district, you gotta watch yourself. I'm hoping to go back next year at some point.

Getting into Legoland costs about the same as a flight to Amsterdam..

but there's less chance of being stabbed to death by a junky there. (probably)

Go to Den Haag instead - Everything the 'dam has got at a fraction of the price.

    Including.......

3 main red light districts (Expensive, medium, rough)

Although a bit cold at this time of year there is a nudist beach at Scheveningen (Tram no 11 from the town centre)
There is also an excellent coffee shop on the beach front there.

A very good selection of bars and coffee shops in the town centre

Home to the Nederlands Dans Theater, the Holland Dance Festival, The Korzo Theatre & Production House and its CaDance festival, in fact shit loads of culture.

Lots of royal palaces and that sort of thing.

Some good fishing in the canals

About 15 mins from the airport

In fact the only thing I would advise against is going to watch "den Haag" play football - They are the Dutch equivelent of Millwall.

I can supply a list of good eating and drinking holes but I am a bit out of date.

The clincher has got to be a retro computer dealer who is based close to central station. Very often has some interesting stuff.

Go check out De Efteling (or however one spells it), was there back in '84 and I recommend the rides (if the place is still up and running).

Also check out A. Frank's loft if you get the chance.

Funny that you all say to visit Den Haag, De Efteling, Anne Frank House.

Den Haag : only 15 min from airport
    Yes, Ypenburg not Schiphol

Den Haag: 60 km from Amsterdam

Efteling: about 100 km from Amsterdam
(Winterefteling is open, but not with all rides, more the nostalgic area)

Btw: I live in Boxmeer and will travel 3 days a week for my job to Amsterdam
    (150 km)

It depends on how you travel to Amsterdam and what you want to visit.

    In Amsterdam:
    Red light district
    Van Gogh museum
    Rijksmuseum (Rembrandt's nachtwacht)
    Anne Frank museum
    Boattrip through the canals
Coffeeshop (for those who JOINt in)
    Sexmuseum
    Amsterdam Arena (AJAX-stadion)

If you travel by car there are a lot of locations near Amsterdam to visit.
Zaanse Schans : Old windmills to visit (15 km from Amsterdam)
Volendam : Old fishingvillage famous for it's popsound (40 km)
Beverwijk : "Grand Bazaar", second hand market, open saturday/sunday (30 km)
Zandvoort : Village by the sea (30 km)
    Enkhuizen : Zuiderzeemuseum (60 km)
Den Haag : dutch parliament, queen palaces, etc.. (60 km)
BUNNIK : depending on the date, first HCC-SINCLAIR meeting in januar 2007! (40 km)

Besides Zaanse Schans and Volendam all places can also be reached by train.

I go to The Dam about 3 to 4 times a year with work (our main training centre is there) and to be honest I cant remeber where anywhere is. Mainly beacuse we spend a week at a time there and we go out every night and get pissed. There is a really good bar that plays Rock, Metal and Indie stuff and all I know is they are always showing football on the TV and I think its round the corner from The Grasshopper. ANd beware, a pint is about 5 euros in some places!!!! Theres a really good Chinese thats on a huge boat with a load of lights on it, and once again I have no idea where it is.
    Sausages is more important

It was a while back and I was a few years younger so I don't recall exact distances ... Holland is soo small anyways, you fart while crossing the street in Amsterdam and Luxemburg gives you a noise complaint :-D
