Funny that you all say to visit Den Haag, De Efteling, Anne Frank House.
Den Haag : only 15 min from airport
Yes, Ypenburg not Schiphol
Den Haag: 60 km from Amsterdam
Efteling: about 100 km from Amsterdam
(Winterefteling is open, but not with all rides, more the nostalgic area)
Btw: I live in Boxmeer and will travel 3 days a week for my job to Amsterdam
(150 km)
It depends on how you travel to Amsterdam and what you want to visit.
In Amsterdam:
Red light district
Van Gogh museum
Rijksmuseum (Rembrandt's nachtwacht)
Anne Frank museum
Boattrip through the canals
Coffeeshop (for those who JOINt in)
Sexmuseum
Amsterdam Arena (AJAX-stadion)
If you travel by car there are a lot of locations near Amsterdam to visit.
Zaanse Schans : Old windmills to visit (15 km from Amsterdam)
Volendam : Old fishingvillage famous for it's popsound (40 km)
Beverwijk : "Grand Bazaar", second hand market, open saturday/sunday (30 km)
Zandvoort : Village by the sea (30 km)
Enkhuizen : Zuiderzeemuseum (60 km)
Den Haag : dutch parliament, queen palaces, etc.. (60 km)
BUNNIK : depending on the date, first HCC-SINCLAIR meeting in januar 2007! (40 km)
Besides Zaanse Schans and Volendam all places can also be reached by train.
dont think id see all that in a weekend. but thanks for the comments.
certainly going to the big museums and the ann frank place. not bothered about sex museum, and im defo going to the katten kabinnet.
The Heineken tour is pretty good. There were about 8 of us and we had a great time. Walking round the red light district is always good for a laugh. Be careful with your camera though (as in taking pictures of the girlies in the windows) if you've got attached to your teeth!
If you've not had a space cake before I really don't recommend having one. The only time I went to Amsterdam was on a stag-weekend. The groom ate one and was sick, really violently ill for two days.
Stupidgets right about that bar, it's very cool, but be prepared to fork out a lot of dosh on the booze though.
It's worth buying one of those tram passes for the day time, you will be doing a LOT of walking otherwise.
A very nice place I can recommend for food, drinks and clubbing is 11. Close to the main railway station (about a two minute walk in the eastern direction along the water) is a former office of the Dutch post. It's being used now for temporarily housing the Stedelijk Museum and on top of the building there's the former canteen which is a bar/restaurant/club. It's just worth going there for the stunning cityview, but also food is good, prices are normal and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights you can stay all night, if you wish.
