Did you know Melbourne House were still going?

They used to do so many Spectrum games, I was very surprised to see Melbourne House in the news today:

Are there many old Speccy developers still in existence (apart from Rare)?

My god, someone's still plugging away at the Test Drive franchise...

I was never impressed by that game.

Test Drive for the PC was one of the finest driving games I played when 486's were still the rage. :)

I remember MH mostly for The Hobbit and Penetrator.

Except they're now going to be known as Krome Studios Melbourne apparently.

Mind you, I thought they'd disappeared when Titus went under so it's good to see that they survived this far.

"Atari has sold Melbourne House, the developer best known for producing the PSP and PS2 versions of Test Drive Unlimited"

It's a shame they're "best known" for Test Drive Unlimted.

I'd prefer they were "best known" for The Hobbit. I'd also prefer they were "best known" for the first "proper" beat 'em up playable in the home with The Way of The Exploding Fist (Bug Bytes Kung Fu doesn't count as it wasn't all that playable). I'd even prefer they were "best known" for ShadowRun, one of the best and sadly underplayed games on the SNES.

In the cold light of sobriety I'll probably acknowledge that Test Drive is the most well known globally of all. A shame really, all the games I mentioned are far better than any of the Test Drives, except maybe 3, I quite liked that but that probably had more to do with getting to know the really fit gal on my YTS course who also did!!

In the press though they always take whatever something or someone has done last, rather than a proper long look at a career. That's especially true in gaming where anything older than 5 years is considered worthless.
