Hiya :) Just wondering what`s happening with the Spectrum version of the PC remake of the Speccy original... Class of 99 that is.
I know James was wanting to finish it from his page, and it`s nice to see he`s done a new Gauntlet clone for the (CoCo I think it was) with graphics by Sadako so it should be cool...
I hope it get`s finished, it`d be great to put all the names of folks from here in as characters, I reckon Karingal (or Mr Karingal) would sound great as that teacher with the cane :)
anyway`s... strong joint, bit dizzy, probs talking shiiiite :) (again - ed)
get`s stoat

KO99 still lives on in the hearts of those who hope for it. ;-)
Circumstances resulted in me stopping work on it earlier this year, then an opportunity arose to get graphics for Glove and that kickstarted that project out of hibernation.
Glove is nearly, nearly finished (an inlay would be nice) so time for KO99 will be coming up.
My programming style is much better these days, so Glove benefited greatly from the idea of prototyping the gameplay before going down to the 6809 and KO99 will go even further.
My KO99 prototype contains the screen code from X128, so it actually simulates the use of both screens with only the dirty areas updated and the scrolling parts are achieved by copying from one screen to the other, just like it will work on the real thing (I hope).
Also, using the prototype to do the gameplay is far better and quicker than just hacking away at some botched-up Z80 code.
Other ideas are better like storing the map as a series of lightly compressed vertical strips instead of useless horizontal ones, using a string table, using a basic script to control the characters and doing all the screen code early on (the tile priorities were a nightmare).

And, yes, calling it Klass Of '99 is getting sillier by the year!
Enjoyed reading your blog on Glove too, needing an emulator then gonna try that out !
Not at all. Just stretch it out for another 93 years and the name will be very appropriate! ;)
Multi-generational games that will only get released one day by your great grandchildren sounds like the way the market is heading. Perhaps by the time we see Elite IV we'll actually have humans reach Alpha Centauri...
