Those plastic tabs stuck on end of keyboard membranes

edited November 2006 in Hardware
I am going to be buying some membranes for some speccies of mine, the thing is, u know the small oblong opaque pieces of plastic that are stuck on the ends of some membranes where they slot into the motherboard, its to make it easier to slot the membrane in, i want to know what could i use that could do the same job ? at the moment i am thinking of using the plastic from old butter cartons , but any ideas would be welcome, and if your solution is free it would be free doubly welcome :)

Glad to hear you'll be ordering some membranes (don't forget I offer discounts for quantity) - however, I have never really found it necessary with modern keyboard membranes - a firm grip on each side of the membrane and they tend to slot in without problems.

However, should you wish to do this, why not cut a strip from the edge of the old keyboard membrane - that should be stiff and thin enough (just don't use the electrical tracks!)

    Yo Swordy

Yeah, sometimes you do need the plastic strips cos the keyboard conacts on the PCB get "tired" after being opened up to accomodate a certain thickness if you see what I mean.

Best thing to use as a replacement stiffener is good old fashioned roach end Rizla cardboard (the packet, not the cardboard strip at the end). I'm sure you know what I mean here, but just in case, thin card like that used in making the packets for ciggy papers. ;) FFS don't use a glue like Bostik or UHU on the membrane itself, you will melt the silver print on it, making it only good for scrap.

Rich at RWAP's membranes are good quality, I can vouch for that since I have bought one from him recently. That membrane is now in India cos the Spectrum I mended with it has been sent to my good friend Arjun :)
    Oh bugger!<br>

If you are in the UK - ?2 for post and packing on 4 membranes, so total cost would be ?26 for 4 rubber key membranes.
