New Beta of my game fire_desire

edited December 2006 in Development
Ok, this is the new beta of my game. It's been a while since I worked on this code.

I want your opinion so I can add more levels etc.
If anyone wants to contribute in level design, I would be thankful.

Download this latest beta from:

Not bad. Some varied attack patterns would be nice, maybe a sine curve or two? Perhaps allow the player to move into the gaps in the scenery without dying?

You could try moving the starfield at a slower rate than the rest of the scenery to see what that looks like.

It looks great! Loads of lovely colour, detailed graphics etc. Yes, I think it's going to be good. I was able to move into the gaps and then make the top edge of the scenery dissapear with my ship, without losing a man. Also, after three or four waves of enamies, there were no more things to shoot at, and there were some 2x2 character squares flashing on the top bit of scenery. No doubt you know about these things, but ya never know.

The game looks really good, I look forward to Simon stocking it at chronosoft.
    Oh bugger!<br>

Very impressive, I like the use of colour. Very smooth.

I especially like the effort you have put into the menu's and hi score routines.

Keep up the good work. Only a suggestion: when you redefine keys, pause key appears before fire. I think fire key should be redefined first, and then, pause key, like in other games. ;)

Looks a great little demo. Would love to see a full version with lots of different levels, different enemies and attack patterns etc and a range of weapons. Not asking for much am i ! ;)

Seriously the potential of this game could be great

    Nice work.

Liked the game, but loved the music. Soundtrack is top notch, reminds me a bit of Turrican.

Look forward to a full release version.

Just don't sell out to Retro Soft

    Well done that man

Nice to see another shooter on the way, the smooth scrolling`s lovely, and nice to see some colour :)

just as an aside, I`ve had it crash twice outa about 10 times whilst running it on an emulated +2... both times was a freeze rather than reset, with the soundchip still sounding same tone. I`ll play it more in 48K mode or on a pure 128K.

WOW! Nice work rtunes! Smooth scrolling, large sprites and full colour - exactly how I like my side scrollers! :)

A few comments on the same:

    1) The lasers or bullets or wotever the ship shoots - I find them a bit too big and ugly. Spaceships should have nice, clean shooting bits of lasers/plasma/wotchamacallit, no? IMO of course! ;)

    2) Also as someone pointed out, there were a few random flashing squares here and there in the level.

    3) Sound effects?

It looks very R-Type to me, which can't be a bad thing.

Throw in some attack formations, like Jonathan suggested, and you've almost got a playable game, graphics and sound effects aside.

Looks good, like the good use of colors...ok here are the things I noticed :D

The colision detection on the 'bottom' wall needs tweaking, you can fly through the first part of it and keep going.

I agree with Arjun that the bullets need to be smaller.

Some actual obsticals would be nice to make the walls feel like more than just a border.

Change the font from Sinclair font to something else maybe.

Looks very promising, good work and keep it up.
