... knowing what Mel is like, but who got a Wii then? :)

I got one on launch day in the US, (lucky time at Toys'R'Us, turning up five minutes after it was open, and getting one of the last two left from the manager... Apparently the people who were supposed to get it had left to go to a cash machine, and the manager didn't want to wait... so I got it :D ).
It's friggin' awesome... I'm just glad I finished the book before I got it,
or it never would have been finished...

Just got my component video cable too... Those things are still selling for silly prices on ebay. I just ordered direct from Nintendo.

It'll grow on you... (ooer!). I have to admit, I do worry about it becoming sidelined into a mere novelty system, with silly games based around the control method alone...

    'course, Red Steel sucks...

I've got one with Wii sports and Zelda. It's great, having a good time on Wii sports atm.

And as for Zelda, this is just ace, the tiny bit I've played so far.

These component video cables - do they make a big difference to the picture quality? And can all tellies take them?
    [EDIT]
Ahh, just read about them. I definitely could do with one of those. The picture quality's ok on my new telly, but could be better.

I've Just bought a 3rd party one off ebay. This seller in Hong Kong is flogging them for £16 in total with P&P:

Another crap console passes me by....

    http://wii.nintendo.com/

The pictures of people using the system really remind me of the promo's for the Grandstand and Atari woody.

I miss pong on my Grandstand. Wonder which landfill it ended up in :(

I can still hear the sfx in my head. Must get a beer. Well the pong sound anyway.

They're still impossible to get hold of here. Every store just has empty shelves where the consoles should be (except those bastard ones who have empty boxes which get your hopes up for a minute or two).

The way things are going, I'll be waiting until well after Christmas for my prezzie.

Got mine this morning before I had to goto work :( .I found it surprisingly simple to set up (the sensor bar is WAY smaller than I expected!) and I was playing Wii sports in no time. I found the motion detection to be a bit hit and miss at times, but I'm not sure if I've got it calabrated right. I'm going to play Zelda right after I've had a shower. That will be the real test of how the new controls feel :)

I will be getting one eventually, probably for my birthday in January. I can't at the moment as I've already bought a GP2X and I still have to buy lots of pressies for my family and friends ... and of course I'll need loads of money for drinks over Christmas. :)

I really can't wait though, and I'm really looking forward to playing Zelda : Twilight Princess. It looks amazing. :)

Will probably sell my Gamecube as I think the games will work on the Wii.

After playing Zelda last night, I've found a pretty big flawin the controls. NO CAMERA CONTROL. OK, so you can get a first person view and look around, but I found the camrea pointing in the wrong direction for alot of the time. I'm also stuck right near the start of the game because I cant catch a bloody fish  Again, the camrea for this is crap! Am I doing something wrong?

Press B to start fishing and to do the first cast (assuming you've set the rod to B). Keep the controller roughly in the horizontal position and watch the float in the water. When the float submerges quite a distance yank the controller back into the vertical position (don't press any buttons or owt).

If a fish has bitten it'll display "Fish on" on the screen. Just keep the controller upright and you'll land the fish in a few seconds. If it's a false alarm, then re-cast by moving the controller almost as if you were really fishing. Good luck :-)

Apparently, there's another type of fishing later on in the game (Lure fishing). You gently nudge the controller to move the lure through the water. When a fish strikes, you reel it in by moving the nunchuk in a circular fashion, as if using a proper fishing reel.

Well I got back in from my operation a couple of hours ago (now going to have a luverly 5 inch scar across my throat; I had a saliva gland removed) ripped open the packaging and was up and playing Wii Sports within about 10 minutes.

Tennis is really good, my 7 year old nephew is brilliant at it! The controllers a lot more responsive than I thought it would be. When the missus sods off to bed I'll be trying Zelda and the Gamecube stuff. Don't think I'll be doing what I did with my opening night with Ocarina, playing until 4am that is, as I'm knackered!

Sounds nasty...hope all's ok now. Some serious recuperation is required on Twilight Princess methinks.

Thanks Daren. Yes I'm on the mend now, especially today as I was able to eat something for the first time in three days, a full English brekkie, superb!!. I wouldn't wish saliva gland stones on anyone. When the infection first hit I looked like I had swallowed a tennis ball, now I look like Frankensteins Monster with the stitches in my neck!!

Not going back to work until New Year so Zelda is going to have a serious hammering. Has anyone busted anything yet with the Wii remote? We've had a lighbulb smash due to an over-vigorous game of Tennis!!

Gamecube stuff works a treat and I like the Mii setup too. Got it connected wirelessly in about 5 mins but I can't get the News or the Forecast channel to work. Keeps saying it needs an update, but when I try to do an update it then states it doesn't need one! Keeps going in a circle. I'm very interested in the Shop but 8 quid for a N64 game is a bit steep.

All in all though I am very impressed with the Wii, Zelda's great, Sports is great (especially Bowling, Boxing is dissapointing), the controller takes about 10 minutes to get used to, and it's very user friendly although I wish some of the icons on the front-end had a pop-up description.

As you can imagine I had a few visitors last night and they all had a go at Tennis and loved it. Seeing Ellies grandad play his first ever videogame was hilarious.

Yeah these channels aren't operational yet. According to:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_Channels

The News Channel goes live on 27 January 2007, and the Forecast Channel starts on 20 December.

Also, it looks like the Internet Channel goes live on 23 December (in Europe). You'll be able to surf the web with the free Opera Browser download. Nice.

I don't have one yet, but played my neice's ex's on Friday!
He got 2 remotes & nunchucks, Wii Play and Red Steel & Zelda..

Played Tennis & Ping Pong for ages...brilliant, but can see it getting old real quick...
Moved onto the Air Hockey game on Wii Play, which was funny as anything...

Tried Zelda and played that for a bit....looks good and can't wait to try out being a wolf 'n' stuff...

Red Steel was quite good too! Was quite surprised by how easy the controls became to use after only a short while...The only truly weird thing is pushing forward to zoom! Felt slighty bizarre. Works kinda like a keyboard/mouse PC setup otherwise.....and the multiplayer was great fun! Although, that might have had to do with the fact it was 2am and I was a guy in a dinosaur suit, being chased by a dodgy Power Ranger rip-off...

All in all, a pretty good first impression...but, only time shall tell....

I tried Excite Racer (or whatever its name) at the store and liked it. I was amazed at how accurate and smooth the hand movements were translated into the game.

The people before me were throwing their arms all around, slamming into the canyon walls and they were everywhere except on the road. I was that way to begin with but then started minimising my movements and after a while it just felt like using a regular steering wheel.

    I likes.

Me really want one - but there is no way i'm shelling out more than the rrp for this piece of kit :(

Everywhere round here has sold out. I reckon there's been a lot of people buying and then ebaying - either very shrewd or complete bastards depending on your point of view.

    ho hum.

wait till march, there will be a price drop. and you will get the same computer. I never understand people buying stuff as soon as it comes out, and people paying twice the price a ebay deserve to have no money.

Hmmm, if you think you are going to get a Wii cheap come March then I think you're in for a rude awakening as "cheaper a few months later" is simply not the case any longer. Unless the Wii bombs over the next few months (which judging by the initial take up is unlikely) then the price is going to remain consistent for the next 8-10 months at least. Take a look at the major consoles released over the last year or so, PSP, DS and 360. Folks are still paying more or less exactly the same as when they first came out albeit included with one or two crappy games. Of course there is always second hand but that's a different risk entirely.

The reason I bought one on day one is simple. I liked the look of it and wanted one to play Zelda whilst I recuperated over Christmas. I sold some of my other consoles (and other stuff) and with my birthday being Xmas Eve I got my family to put the rest towards it as a joint Christmas/Birthday present. With my birthday being that date I'm sick of getting pointless crap or joint pointless crap that I will never use so this time I asked for something I really wanted. Also I wasn't going through the wait I had with the 360 last year.

Couldn't agree more with eBay though, you've got to be desperate/rich to go that route!
