well i believe he moved around a week ago, so again he may not be online as yet
Indeed he did.
Currently having to put up with tiscali dialup until Friday when the nice people at NTL connect my broadband and once again everything will be good with the world...

Heh. I just installed a virtual Windows 98 box, and it was very strange having download speeds quoted to me as if I was using a 28.8k modem.
NTL came and did their stuff this afternoon, and hopefully the website should be back online again (if not, it's probably just a DNS propagation issue).
Erm, except I can't get on IRC anymore :(
It appears astrolink thinks I'm a spambot:

Wow, I didn't know about this emulator until now. It has a lot of options that the other emulators were missing. I have a new toy to play!
And it's the first time I read about SpeccyBob, too. I wonder if I can build a SpeccyBob that could work here in the U.S. 110v power supply, ntsc video output (rca composite, but rf would be just fine!)...
I'm going to translate it as best as I can. It might be useful.
"Comments regarding the Eightyone emulator

It is a good thing that computers like the ZX81, Lambda 8300, Jupiter Ace, TC 2048 and TS 2068 are emulated.
Curiously though, if I want to use the microdrive in Timex mode, I have to activate it in 48k, 128k or +2 mode first. And the TS2068 only accepts the IF1 if I use the ts2048.dck, not the emuspec.dck. And when I'm in Timex mode I can't deactivate the IF1 anymore, and the TS2068 becomes a TC2048 with ts2048.dck.
The TS2068 rom can be easily replaced by the unipolbrit UK2068, just by renaming it.
And we finally have a rival against Spectaculator regarding the IF1 emulation. Eightyone accepts Ian Collier's modified rom, the imc-if1.
The cons? Only 2 for now.
-Eighyone crashes if I try to load CP/M discs in +3 mode.
-Speed. Real Spectrum, Warajevo, Spectaculator and Emuzwin allow me to do a fast CAT 1 (when using MDR) without major speed changes. Eightyone takes longer to do it and it might even look like if it had crashed, but it doesn't. It only takes longer. Maybe that's the way the real IF1 works.
The Lambda 8300 is compatible with the ZX81, specially if we're talking about Basic, but you have to type the commands letter by letter (like in Beta Basic, the 80-lec.rom or the gosh wonderful rom). If you add the color expansion pack (if it's the 81, you activate the option 'Lambda color'), then you could also use the Spectrum commands INK, PAPER and BORDER. If you use the imc-if1.rom you have to rename it to specif1.rom and replace the one that comes included with Eightyone.
It would be interesting to see the emulation of the Timex FDD3000 too.

XP restarts just once - after installation from CD. :)
