no can not ping you either, going to go check my router and allow everything through, I wonder if we both need to check this...

    doh! computers are trouble...!!!
  • edited December 2006
hmm try my REAL IP instead of the external IP: 172.16.180.117 :) or do you have to use the external one?
    I allowed JSWOL both ways...

hmm what's more funny is that I can usually ping myself and get a <1ms latency, but I can't ping the external adress either......program bug?

I also think that pressing S resetting the baddies' position can be used as a bug abuse/cheat bcause you can get past monsters and/or make it worse for your willy companions..

hmm...aah screw it (turns off JSWOL)

we need organized playing :P or a 24/7 player to which you can really connect to :)
  • edited December 2006
Moahaha! its so dead funny! :D

but it crashes from time to time.. *calling in Robbie the robot to get rid of the BUGS*

    ;)
  • edited December 2006
Argh, the crash bug is doing my nut in.

We thought we'd killed it before the game went out and as soon as it hits the wild it resurfaces again. The only thing we can think of is the net code itself is causing it.

I've been looking into balancing out some of the rooms having watched a few people play it over the past week, so I've been kicking that into touch a bit tonight and fixing a the broken ones too.

A couple of folks have been knocking together a few handy accessories - a server monitor and a map amongst them. Might be worth having a gander over the RR thread here for all the gumph.

Glad you're enjoying it though, and sorry about the crash bug :S

Anyone still playing this? I'd love to have a bit of fun with this thing.
  • edited January 2007
I had it on my computer back home and never tried it, I have it on this one and still haven't.
    Every night is curry night!

update - , weve changed the netcode and managed to get rid of that nasty crash bug ( hooray ) , there will be a new version this week .
it also includes a server screen that shows what games are currently going so no more need to find I.P'S :) , a few room changes , you are now allowed to spy in all game modes.

i'll post a link when its ready

Wahey. 2.8a is up. No sign of the crash bug of doom so far.

Hope I haven't just jinxed that, though. New game mode added, map tweaked and tweaked and tweaked.

There's a server browser within the game now - but if you're curious as to wether anyones playing, there's also an online portal over at Ovine for you to have a gander at.

    Grab it here

I'll be on a bit later, gonna have some food now :D

    Yaaay :) good work.

But still...I see 1 server available now, but I still can't connect to him. I see the little PCs in the corner for about 6minutes now...
I opened my firewall for JSWOL so there should be no problem on my side, I hope the other side did this too...

What about a JSW Hamachi server?

I like the game map on the website :) but in places it's kinda hard to follow the strangely curved arrows. (As for me, I haven't played much of the JSW 2, 3 etc so I don't know where are all the rooms)

And when I change the music tune too often (e.g. cycle it 6x or more) the game crashes ;)

Is there a version 2.9 available? I have 2.8 but there is 1 game which said to have 2.9 so I couldn't connect
And I can connect now, I think. Apparently Windows Firewall was still blocking the access even though KPF didn't

There was a version 2.9 on the Retro Remakes forum I think.

One of the more simple yet helpful changes to make:

In the lobby and during the game, please make pressing escape only stop typing the current message. Don't make it exit the game or the lobby. You're trying to set up the game, type something, decide against sending it, instinctively press Escape to remove the message and BAAAM, game over, everyone reconnect to the host! F10 should be the quit key - escape should be the back key for messages and when you don't want to select a certain menu option. At least for the host. Additionally, if you press escape whilst the message is half-typed, when you return to the lobby, you're still in talk mode just to rub it in. So stopping the escape key quits current game thing is a simple change that would be beneficial to all hosts who embarrassingly halt the game by accident. Cheers.

Aye, 2.9 was a surprise bugfix (surprise to me anyway) early this morning - you can grab it here

The escape thing I'll get Stu to sort out, I've done it a few times myself and keep forgetting to ask about it. No worries there - looks like I've got one room to edit again anyway so its nay bother.

Excellent game Oddbob. I've been playing it for the last two hours and it's awesome. I'll be telling everyone I know about it tomorrow. Well done. :)

Any chance of an editor to make our own custom maps?

I think from now on, all online games should be old 8 Bit games remade. Online gaming has now reached it's peak, and trying any harder will just be a waste of time and a crushing disappointment to boot.

PS: Is there anyway for the host to kick someone from the game? I probably should read the documentation.

One thing I've discovered about JSW Online. Everyone's A Bob. It's like that Everyone's a Wally game, but with Bobs. Even my name has Bob in it. We need another couple of letters to give us more name possibilities!

just change your name . youve got 8 characters

I just downloaded v2.9, and it doesn't work at all.. It pops a black window, and silently closes itself.

Am I doing something terribly wrong?

After that, I downloaded v1.62 and it works ok. Then I thought v2.9 is just an update, I copied v2.9 over 1.62, it still doesn't work at all.

    Am I missing something?

We should all arrange a time where everyone joins a game simultaneously. It will be just like a chatroom, but with killer toilets and big-headed Jewish priests. :)

Did you download the 2.9 version file that is linked a few posts up or the entire thing? The link on this board contains just the .exe file that needs to be used with the 2.8a version. If you go to the main JSW online site you can download the full 2.9 package.

make sure port 7002 is open if your hosting a game and your firewall allows it, lots of peeps are starting games without either of these .

    ok thanks. it works now.

btw, I checked the whole thread and couldn't find jsw main site. Google won't help me much too. Which one is it?
