edited February 2007 in Chit chat
seeing as remakes are en vouge at the mo. which old films would you LIKE to see remade.

please don't abuse this thread by posting a 8 paragraph rant about how 'north by northwest' shouldn't be remade.

    maltese falcon

    any of the quatermass films
    forbidden planet

NONE of the Dirty Harry films.

    :)

I'm very happy to hear that the Marlowe books are going to be made into films again, although having Clive Owen play Philip Marlowe seems a bit off to me - Marlowe should be an American, and be set in 1930's California.

But Hollywood knows how to ruin a good movie, so I'm not too interested in remakes.

    Debbie does Dallas.

(With the female cast of Hollyoaks in it)

Why not? We could do what the yanks did to Alfie, Get Carter, and the Italian job. But make Dirty Harry with a British cast, chances are they'd end up being really good. It'd be like reverse crucifixion of film, but you'd probably have to call it Mucky Hazza or Filthy Bert though.

Certain remakes were crap - Planet of the Apes for instance...

Wonder what a remake of Citizen Kane would be like..

I don't know if im lookling forward to the 3rd movie outing for 'I am Legend' as I love 'The Omega Man' so much.... and I will just be sitting there looking at Will Smith thinking of Charlton Heston....

    anyhoo -

Silent Running - Now there is a film that could be a fantastic remake.

I would like to see a remake of 'Metropolis' - as in, lets remake the film to look like the original with todays special effects... not a horrific 'battlestar' re-imagening pap.

    The day of the triffids.

    second the 'Quatermass' stories.

I would like to see a remake of 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' set in a modern day estate in manchester.

With the tag line 'Now do a goddam proper version of 'War of the Worlds' for christs sake!!!!!!

Terrorvision, one of my fave 80's B-movies. I'd love to know what the hungry beast would look like done in CG instead of papier mache and rubber. Only problem is I like the original so much a remake may ruin it.

    Fright night.

    House.

    Salems Lot.

Ghoulies 1, 2, and The Ghoulies go to College.

    Troll.

    Krull.

    The Last Starfighter.

    In the shade of Kilamanjaro.

    Creepers.

    Enemy Mine.

    The Gate.

    Silver Bullet.

    Neon Maniacs.

    Maniac cop.

    Driller Killer.

    Eliminators.

    Arena.

    Nightbreed.

And last but not least a proper remake of Frank Herberts Dune (not one of those 4 hour long 2 part made for TV things). I know that would defo be ruining a classic but I'd like to see just how much of an arse they'd make of it.

Many quality films may be crucified beyond help, but It'd be interesting to see what modern remakes of these would be like.

can't remake nightbreed, unless you get the guy from casulty in it.

Salems Lott has been remade. Rob Lowe is in it. It's complete shite. I love the original one with David Soul in it.

He was a great actor in his wife beating days..

NO! You can't remake these! They were classic 80s films, and all nostalgia would be lost if they were remade! Utter classics!

    .

oh man I used to love Terrorvision. I rented that out so many times when I was a kid. cant remember much about it apart from the line 'woah... pill freak' or something. would love to see that again.

Fright Night is pure aceness. I'd rather they remade my knob out of razorblades than touched that film. The sequel was bad enough.

There are so many really crap B movie sci fi films that wouldn't be half as bad (i.e. just crap) with the special effects they can do now, some might even be half decent.

No doubt Miles will correct me and tell me its already been done but I bet the porn industry could do something really special with "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman"

Yes, yes, yes to 'Day of the Triffids.' With Nigel Harman as Bill Mason. However, the abandoned American remake of 2002 looked awful, with its multi-headed venus flytraps.

Silent Running, yes indeed, and always pops up in the 'must remake debates'
Also yes to Metropolis, and Quatermass.

And I'll add to the list with,

Creature from the Black Lagoon (The creature was creepy back then, just imagine it now!)

Them! (Original was fantastic, but the cardboard wings were slightly laughable. A scene-for scene remake with modern effects would rock!)

Aliens (A vast, deeper complex, and, This time, lets have more than 6 creatures on screen at a time!)

Star Wars (Cuz the originals have been ruined. I wanna see the Beggars Canyon race, and all the Anchorhead stuff thats in the superior radio plays.)

War of the Worlds (As per the book (With a budget!))

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that the new Battlestar is pap!

No No No - Aliens is just right. - a true rendition of some of the later books / comic strips would be superb, but leave the original 2 alone :)

Them : is that the one with the giant ants - that was a great film.

I also remember lots of 70's british films ( not sure if they were hammer films ) that would be good for remakes ( especialy now that good special effects are reletively cheap ). I particulalry remember one with peter cushing and a load of things that absobed all your bones, excellent. :)

Attack of the 50 foot woman has been remade - daryl hannah started i beleive

Yeah i was so looking forward to this as i loved the original, the remake was terrible. The Shining is one of my all time favourite films, watched the remake and it was dire.

hmmmm, bit torn with this one, the remake was closer to the book, but the kubrick one was the better film.

As stephen king said. 'jack nicholson cant play torrance, torrance slowly goes crazy, jack nicholson looks crazy at the start.

Graz - i believe there is a company filming war of the worlds that is set when the book is set. there was a bit of bother with dreamworks over thier version. not sure how far they got, might have a search for it.

I believed I was the last person to remember and like Terrorvision (briliant film!)

I'm totally against remakes, but for some reason I've always wanted to see a fresh version of north by northwest! It had all the ingredients to be briliant!

Cool. I know theres a Jeff Wayne one planned for this year, but another one as per the book would be cool!

Oh, and Beccy... Where's that Logans run remake you promised me?!

I know about the remake with Rob Lowe, it got turned off after about 30 mins or so. I think Rob Lowe is better at getting caught in compromising situations than he is at acting anyway.

Why does everyone think a remake of Silent Running is a good idea? I can't imagine it being very popular these days - it's pretty slow moving for today's action-hungry, wizzo-CGI-loving audiences....

Don't get me wrong, I love the movie, and it's eco-friendly message was prophetic for the time, but I don't think it's aged too badly and a remake is entirely unecessary. The effects still look OK (there's a nice simplistic realism to 70s models and spaceship sets as also used in Star Wars, 2001 and Alien) - only the hairstyles and soundtrack seem very dated!

The original has a special kind of poignancy which really affected me (probably first saw it in the 80s on TV) and was the only movie I remember making me cry as a kid (not even E.T. did that). I can't imagine a modern remake having that affect on me - it would probably be way too clinical and it's simply not fashionable to make a Sci Fi movie that tugs the heartstrings....
