This is interesting. So are you having much to do with this ? Are you helping out the other person at all with the layout etc ? Will it be similar to yours but obviously a C64 computer on the front ?
Would LOVE a series of books like the Speccy one, eg one for the SNES, Gameboy, Amstrad etc etc.
You mention the 'Golden years' series. Sounds great, what are your plans ?!
Actually the plan is that I would have a lot to do with it... However, Andrew Fisher knows much more about c64 games than I do...
I would be the editor, so I'd make sure that the style was consistent with the other book... I'm also doing all of the layout and design, so the production values will be as good as the first book...
It's still touch and go - like the ZX Spectrum book, it will be dependent on the number of pre-orders received... but this time it will be easier, because for one, I've already done one, and for two, someone else is doing a lot of the work.
As for further books... hehe... too soon to tell... It's still just a fun hobby rather than a 'legitimate business' and I'd like to keep it that way... However, I did register a couple of extra domains, just in case ;)
Great to hear Andrew, thanks for the update. The Commodore book should be very popular, obviously because of the US connection. I'll be buying every one you do for sure, it'll be a great collection and for systems i'm not too aware of very useful.
I know its thinking ahead too far but it would be great to see some more in the future such as SNES/ SMS and lots of other systems.
Received my copy today as well and wanted to express my thanks for the hard work you obviously put into it, Andrew!
Looked up the Soldier of Fortune entry and probably laughed out loud enough to annoy the neighbours.
It also prompted me to add the book to the database.
In case you're serious by asking "Who the hell was Harry?" on the Frank Bruno's Boxing page, it refers to Harry Carpenter, the former BBC boxing commentator.

The only thing is it seems I"m gonna get screwed on the exchange rate given the current strength of the pound to the dollar. It works out at just shy of $52 through pay pal. Is there a way to buy it direct in dollars?
Got mine today, and you remembered to sign it!
The book is awesome, flicked through it loads of times already radomly stopping at games. Great work Mr Rollings :)
Andrew.
I just received the book in the post and I must say I'm most disappointed. The book is, uhm... written in a lackluster fashion. Yeah, and the pages smell funny. And you didn't include Sam Fox's Strip Poker or other low-resolution pornographic games.
In all this is the most expensive door stop I've ever had the misfortune to buy.
PS. these complaints are entirely false. The book is fantastic, I just figured you could use a break from all the much-warranted and justified praise :p
Well done - I'm looking forward to volume the second.
Andrew.

To tell you the truth, I'm really touched (and dead chuffed) by the uniformly positive feedback...
I'm too close to the book now to see anything other than its faults... like my tendency to use too many commas in a sentence, and the few glaring typos that slipped through the cracks...
Still... I'm looking forward to the C[ensored]64 book, and the next book after that (top secret :) )
I have a better idea than most on how much they cost you mate, we had a rather long chat about it when you bought my copy of the GamesTM anthology off me a while back :)
Lets be honest here, an Amstrad book is not going to sell like a C64 or Speccy one, so I have decided to allow people to take it POD. Im not going to stump up the kind of cash you did for the amount of copies that you had printed when we all know full too well that a CPC related book will sell 100 or even less (LOL).
With POD, although it is dearer, people can buy it if they want to, or dont if they dont want to. It will also mean that I can offer both full colour, black and white and PDF versions so everyone and every pocket is accounted for.
I have a rough idea of the amount of money you are making on your book and good luck to you for every penny you manage to make from it, even if it just about buys you a beer at the end of it. As long as my costs are covered (by POD i'm not paying a penny in costs) then im all good. Like you said to Zeropolis in another thread, its simply for the love of the machines that we do these stupid things :)
Anyway, as mentioned above, I'm taking a different route to what i am doing, but it will be good to get a collection together for the "uninformed" to have a read of at bedtime.

That's right.. I remember reading about it in some thread or other on an amstrad site I found while I was analyzing my incoming web traffic :P
Received my copy yesterday and well... what can I say... apart from congratulations on a fantastic job. I've only had chance to flick through it but from what I've seen it looks fabulous. Loads of games I've never heard of but am now going to check out and it's great remembering the games I used to play.
Thanks for all the hard work and for sticking with it. I really hope these sell out as all fans of the Spectrum should have a copy and all your hard work deserves to be recognised.
I know that a vol 2 is extremely unlikely ever to happen but it would be interesting to see some lesser known titles and even some of the more recent games covered.

Yep.. Got some left :)
