Wit the divorce rate so high (2 in 3 marriages, last I heard), the whole marriage thing scares me - appears to me as it's more like a curse.
I know that's the wrong way to view it and the stats are misleading, but still...
View it like a house ! I dont mean make sure its nice and warm inside.
I mean get a good foundation and dont marry the first girl you fall in love with, also give it 2+ years at least till you marry, the first 2 years youre often at it like rabbits and your brain isnt thinking straight and too many people get married too soon. Take it nice and slow, get a good foundation then settle down !

!
yeah make sure it has good access from the back, try not to get one that has had hundreds of occupants, check it out for infestation, check for leaks, make sure the pipes are working, dont judge it on the state of the front garden either.
It took me a while to realise that finding the right person for yourself, is more important than finding the person who'll impress your friends. It's really easy to turn down opportunities that arise because you're worried that your friends will take the piss, if she's not a great looker, or whatever.
I'm really lucky - I'm an ugly old mardy bastard, but I eventually found my wife who I've been with for 10 years now, who'll put up with me doing a job that I like that earns very little money, will put up with countless computers around the house, gave me 2 great daughters, and shares most of the same interests.
If you need a wallet full of cash and a flashy car, then you're looking at the wrong women. The women that don't look for these things are the ones that'll stay around.

Wow - it took a while but Chaos has actually said something meaningful!!
I've always gone for personality over looks. Your looks fade as you get older but your personality rarely changes.
I would say that now though as my new gf has everything :)
i think its a myth that pretty girls dont have a personality and not so pretty girls have brains and personality, ive gone out with some dogs that have been thick as pig poo.

I agree with you there Chaos.. Most of my friends were AGAINST Amy.. only because she got me away from the computer room at college so they had to learn all their hacking information by themselves.. (and they kept getting caught).
I've never gone for looks or that. I'd been with other girls before Amy but after a while with her, I knew she might be the one. I only met her because she needed someone to help her in the computer room for some coursework and everyone told her to find me. (she was expecting some glasses and braces geek - she saw me on the lead computer looking as if I owned the place, we got talking then she asked me to show her where I was (by name) and I told her she was looking at me (pointing to me)). I helped her, she took me to lunch to say thanks, and things went from there, very slowly. We took our time.
Amy puts up with me despite my unstable freelance job and my intrests in Doctor Who, Transformers, etc. She said I can now have what I like in terms of computers as long as I limit it to the shed..
She's given me two lovely daughters as-well.
The question some of my friends asked was why did she agree to marry me. A few think it was because I got her pregnant. I ask these days why she still puts up with me - she knows I'm mad being intrested in retro computers and thinks I'm mad for doing the map book but leaves me to it because she knows it makes me happy. (She called Andrew Rollings insane because he wrote the speccy book and plunged thousands of his money into publishing it although when she read it, she thought it was good, well researched and well written)
Mile - that is a myth. Amy has a wonderful personality.

That's just a typo - there's an "o" missing and the "n" isn't needed. :)
