Has anyone managed to get this emulator to work on xp? Website says it was built for win95/98 and the error would seem to infer it doesnt like the nt based system.

No. but u can alternately use emuzwin to play 256 colour games.

Sorry, but I don't know of any way, but as Arjun says, use EmuZWin, as it's far, far better in every way (well, Spec256 has one advantage; it requires a less powerful PC, but if you're running XP then you should have a fairly powerful PC anyway).

Edit: Don't forget to play Head Over Heels in 256 colour mode! Best version ever, I say!
