QAOPM/SPACE is my first choice, followed by 56780 cursor keys (for all Ultimate games execpt Jetpac and Lunar Jetman). Maybe key layouts depends on if you`re left or right handed. I`m left handed for writing,
A mate at school woud redefine QZIPN for many games which I found to be too wide apart and very uncomfortable.
SPACE....SPACE only two kinds of people use space people with freaky shaped hands or show off's who've got a Spectrum+ or a 128 :grin:
Any Spectrum that not a rubber keyed.
Seems the most obvious key for FIRE being the largest key on the keyboard. Just slap it with your thumb as and when. Unless you've got freaky shaped hands...
Since no-one else has mentioned it... Why is it that BBC Micro enthusiasts prefer PLZX-SPACE to QAOP-SPACE?

I can see how that would work but I guess it would be easier if you were left handed.
Guess I've spent too many years using my right hand for left/right movement.
(I was going to say using my left hand for up/down movement but that would be asking for trouble...:lol:)
I've never had a problem with the Ultimate QWERT, as since I could never really use a joystick on the speccy, I learnt to play with the sinclair joystick keys (67890), and QWERT is the same setup.
All my PC games that can use definable keys will be set to 67890 (or nearest equivalent like YUIOP or whatever) since I cannot play any other way!
Hall of the Things and Warlock were one of those cult games similar to a film that mostly seems terrible but has one redeeming feature that seems to make it worthwhile. I used to love playing Hall of the things but the amount of weapons you had compared to what they were actually good for (i.e. nothing) was ridiculous.
I only managed to play HOTT properply when I could map the keys to a joystick in an emulator. Good game but certainly up there with the worst of them for keyboard layout,

but seriously I wish I'd used I/O left and right then perhaps my P key wouldn't have worn out and I'd still have been able to load games no " you see
