ZX 80 went for GBP 96 on ebay Belgium

Hello,

An untested and unboxed ZX80 went for roughly GBP 96 (EUR 142,50) on www.ebay.be (look for item number 180087722900) yesterday. I was tempted to bid but was afraid it was going to cost more than EUR 100, so I refrained myself. It was bought by an Italian bidder.

ZX80 in Belgium must have been pretty rare, hence the price. In the last week, two ZX81 went for around EUR 25 here, too.

How much would a working ZX80 normally cost in Britain?

Regards

I don't know really. I've bough a Sinclair Spectrum + for 99p (?7.99 P&P). It comes with the user guide manual and companion cassette, the power supply, connecting leads, and two games (Crazy Golf and Alien Destroyer). It's untested though, but this doesn't matter much as I'm using it for a project anyway.

I have never seen the ZX80 on sale anywhere. I've seen a Spectrum +2 go for a 99p, but I have never seen a Spectrum +3. Although my friend has one, he swears blind that the +3 is worth ?30, and wanted me to pay him ?20. Although it doesn't work and has only one game. I don't know where he got that information, but this leads me onto my main question, so I'm sorry if I've answered this question with another question lol.

Question: Is there anywhere on the internet that shows the proper price for the Spectrum consoles?

By coincidence PC Pro has an article on old Sinclair machines this week that suggests a working ZX80 is worth £400.

Cheapest I have seen on Ebay was $7 Buy it Now (US only). I missed that by hours. I have seen the £400 ones usually with associated books and magazines.

I don't know about recently, but I know when I was actively ebaying a couple of years ago ZX80's would regularly go for 200-250 quid with the foam outer. I seem to remember one with the actual cardboard mailing box going for significantly higher than that.
Unboxed machines went for 150-200 quid as far as I can remember, so I reckon that 96 quid one was a decent price, especially if it was untested.

Didn't know they could fetch that much. But then again, they really are R@RE!
One day, I'll have one! For now, I'm more interested in getting a QL, albeit with a French keyboard.
