Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

I've noticed a slow down of post recently too.

So did I, but I just reckoned it was because I have begun to log on twice a day almost...

I've noticed a big slow down.

Personally I don't like the forum split we had a couple of weeks ago. It's put me off posting for some reason.

That said, I've probably posted more in the Games forum lately then I had in quite a while.

Yeah, the new chit chat forum has killed off miscelaneous and now when you post in chit chat you feel duty bound not to mention the spectrum.

    ...

You know ... in the last 3 weeks or so I've hit the "Cancel Post" button at least 8-10 times ... even though I have put forth some kind of a cohesive thought, it just feels like it's not worthy of a reply or I just don't care enough ... but if I don't care, why not press Submit instead ...

ahhh, whatever ... maybe this time I'll press Submit instead.

It might also just be the heat (at least over here) ... it's been too hot and muggy this past month ... 80's & 90's ... I don't mind the heat too much ... it's the humidity which sucks.

Well maybe that's why the forum seems to be empty. Not enough people hitting the Submit button! :)

    The stick insect?

I'm sure they showed a couple of games against Venus Williams before being beaten and knocked out of the competition. Blink and you'd have missed them though.

    Yup, that`s her.
The BBC did show the game between one of the William sisters (dunno which one) on Saturday, which was then cut short to show some highlights of a muddy field with some tossers murdering New Order songs....

So, that`s my Hantuchova fix for this year.

Still ain`t got a clue about the rules or scoring system of tennis - nor do I care.

The forum isn't dead. And as long as we keep it alive, it will stay alive.

The only thing I fear is what will happen to the Speccy scene when we become really old. Hmmmm, this could be a motive for a new thread...

I can imagine this forum full of threads like "Top tricks for fixing your false teeth", "Another WOS legend passed away" and "My 48K is starting to fosillize, help!".

i was thinking the other day about the average age of people on here. will this site be going in 30 years? id be nearly 60, and prolly be spending my time buying my 20 yr old robot wife gold jumpsuits or whatever the future of fashion will be.

Possibly yes, old people have a lot of free time. Besides this is not just another crap forum, it's good and with quite proey people around. So if it's ever discontinued I'll bet there will be somebody to retake it.

My opinion is that in 30 years mankind will disappear due to a nuclear war combined with an asteroid crash and several pandemics :-D But if this doesn't happen the chances of WOS surviving are good, methinks.

possibly one member left, horribly mutated, hiding in a bunker from the harsh acid rain, and trying to avoid trifids. endlessly looking for links to denied games, so it can delete them, even though there is no one on the site.

    grim.

Have you considered the grave threat that global warming poses to speccydom, nay, WOS itself? When the huge Greenland iceshelves finally slip into the Arctic Ocean and melt, sea levels will rise 10 feet, burying a large chunk of Holland -- and the WOS servers -- under several feet of ocean water. WOS will suddenly short out. Many of us will hopefully think that Martijn is updating the BB software. The hours will pass, then days. Then we will all realize that WOS will not be coming back and, with usenet having died more than a decade earlier, there will be no place to go. The internet will be a dark dank place -- D-Day for the spectrum world.

Think globally, act locally. Write your politicians. Vote only for those who give clear and action-oriented policies, not that "we care too but only if it doesn't cost the industry I work for" shite.

It's funny when you hear Nigel Lawson and other toffs denying climate change. Let's cut the crap and get to the root of it, Nigel:
The reason you don't believe in climate change is because you fear that you will lose money out of it.
If you thought that believing in climate change would make you money, you would believe in it.
Every opinion you have is based on money. Or foreigners.

And anyone that names their daughter after them and puts an "a" on the end of the name to make it sound feminine is a total and utter egomaniac prick.
Glad to get that out of my system...

Does Nigel Lawson actually deny climate change or simply say we should adapt to it? There is a difference... the former would make him a liar.
