Does anyone remember this demo?

edited February 2013 in Games
Hi all,

My first post so forgive me if I'm in the wrong part of the forum.

I remember a demo that came on a cover tape which had the "twisting lines" effect (like the Windows 'Mystify' screensaver) in the top 2 thirds of the screen and you pressed any key on the keyboard to select different game tunes (for example, I remember "L" gave you the Indiana Jones theme).

The musics were all 128k.

It's been bugging me for ages (literally years!!!)

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Sounds like one of the Song In Lines demos.
Not sure which one... try them all out: http://zxdemo.org/search.php?search=song+in+lines

Just a thought, you may be better off looking at Busy's site, as Gasman doesn't seem to have all of the SIL demos. I can't check what's on Busy's site as it's blocked from work :(

Either that, or one of the Fuxoft Soundtrack series (and I've got a feeling one of those was indeed on a SU covertape).

I published something like this a very long time ago called "Son et Lumiere".

There were two programs on the tape, both embryonic lightsynths. Son et Lumiere I took a signal that came into the Ear socket and turned it into patterns on screen that pulsated to the music.

Son et Lumiere II was exactly like you're describing except that it didn't have any built in music; it just ran the Mystify effect and you could change the symmetry etc on the fly (When, years later, I saw the Windows screen saver, I thought "You thieving b*stards!")

But great minds think alike; in fact the same effect was used a bit later on the Commodore 64 Tubular bells program. All of mine were for the 48k though.

I should really dig these out and post them, I suppose.

This is the one given away with one of the mags. Sure of it, and a great demo with lots of tunes, all in a single load and accessed by pressing all the alphabeticackle keys. Twisty lines, Indy Jones, also lots of Jarre and a bit o Genesis. It was Hacked by Scorpion soft, and may have been on an SU tape.

Sorry, you already mentioned that it was on a cover tape! It has to be the one I'm thinking of!

    Okay, nostalgia is flowing now!

Thanks you guys, it was Fuxoft Fuxound 4!
I actually loaded Fuxound 3 first and it had most of the same tunes but then when I saw '4' load...

    Cheers!

I haven't seen that for about 20 years!

When I was a kid, I thought it was the dog's knackers - now, as an adult... it's kind of creepy (although the music kicks major bottom). I remember the radial lines gradually slowing down and then stopping completely.
