Death Pit is pretty dire. About the best thing I can say about it is that a lot of the game engine for Saboteur was apparently developed from it.
The release for the CPC was bankrolled by Amstrad who, unlike Durell, weren't too fussed about quality. The CPC had only just gone onto the market and they wanted to get a lot of titles onto the market quickly.
Another couple of CPC-only games were Space Hawks and Roland Goes Square Bashing. You're not missing anything much if you've never played them either.

Oooh! Maybe you have the answer then! Comment here if you can, please.
If so, does that say something about Durell's opinion of Amstrad owners? :-D
-"This game Death Pit, it doesn't meet our quality control standards."
-"Oh dear. Better just release it on the CPC then."
Hehe, that was well funny! :-P

Meh.. It's okay...
I kinda like it, although the slowdown for extra enemies is pretty annoying...
