Who wants spam email?

edited May 2007 in Chit chat
Sorry for the rant but...

john.fleet@northtyneside.gov.uk

Has kindly sent me an (unsolicited) email telling me: "See the attachment below to find out about an exciting opportunity to
market your business locally on the web free of charge:"

Blah de fucking blah.

And what has the (expletive deleted) done? (And I don't use the term lightly.) He's sent the email out ccing 316 other recipients.

Do you think NTC is going to pay me for the time I have to spend dealing with all the extra spam I'll get from each of the systems among the 316 that has a virus or spyware?

God I hate spam.

God I hate fuckwits with computers.

If you come across somewhere to sign up an email address use the one above.

Not a happy bunny.

UK anti spam laws, as a general rule, don't apply to businesses. Where are good sites where I can forward spam to have domains blacklisted?

Rant over.

Why not sign up to some porn sites and use his email - the ones that advertise "Free Porn in your Emai" should work nicely. Then, as he's on a gov domain, chances are he'll get caught! :)
    Oh bugger!<br>

That all makes the assumption that the email is actually from this person. Which it probably isn't. Either he's been been stupid with his security or (more likely?) it's a spoofed email.

    Not spoof, genuine numpty :-

See the attachment below to find out about an exciting opportunity to
market your business locally on the web free of charge:

Note the lack of opt in opt out on the email? Poor, poor practice. I'm waiting for a call back from him but as I phoned at 17:06 and he works for the council, he'd buggered off home.

I hate that my tax money goes on this kinda stuff.

Feel free to use his email, I'd never be able to find those sort of sites.

Ah well in that case, and as he's a government-type person, reply saying that you'd love to advertise your business on the web free-of-charge... because advertising the services of the women in your employ in the back of seedy magazines can be expensive.

I got some spam email the other day about http://www.anglo-bulgaria.co.uk/

I did my usual p*ss off email but on my 'secret' hotmail i wrote to him pretending i was interested. Once i got a reply back i went into my rant about spam email.

He did write back a polite email saying he wasnt aware of spam laws and used a company in China for the email list (duhhh).

After i did my usual windup about contacting anti-spam agencies in the UK he then went overboard and said hes contacted his solicitor for various reasons, eg me emailing him pretending to be interested etc !

Also told him to get a decent website and to check for typos, its dire.

Hes still going on and on but i've had to block him, his long winded rants are worse than mine believe it or not !

Just said to him IF i wanted to get spam email fair enough but i never asked to be put on the chinese list, its just spam which he just doesnt understand

On which subject, I'd like to apologise to the several thousand people by now who have received spam from my email address. Absolutely nothing to do with me. Apparently this is called 'joe-jobbing'. If anyone ever finds out a way to determine who it is that's using my email address I would dearly love to know.

From what I am reading above the question I would like to ask is why are you getting them?

Blueyonders (Virgin Media) spam filter normally means I see hardly any spam.

Does this mean other ISP's are letting a lot of crap through or are these "hotmail" type accounts your talking about?.

northtyneside.gov.uk are unlikely to be listed as spam sources and the email does not fit the usual mdel for bayesian filters to knock it out.

Also as it is a genuine email from a genuine email address it passes all the RDNS type lookups.

This is a case of an individual sending bulk email from a legit source. Normally I wouldn't be too bothered but the guy has sent *MY* email address to 316 other email accounts (and vice versa).

Mmmmm ... you offering SPAM? I'll have some! It was 70 years ago that SPAM was first produced ... the birthplace is just south of where I live.

Read this about the legal difference between SPAM and spam.

It's the smirk and the perv'stache that give him away as being a true spammer ... and a spanner to boot.

PS Go here to leave an official complaint.
