keyboard mashers

and joystick breakers...

I have just been given a spare keyboard so my first thought was perhaps I might destroy it by hammering it to pieces on Daley T's Decathlon et al. I enjoyed a game of Hypersports yesterday for the first time in many years.

I think these 2 may have been the only good ones around in the early speccy years, which is where my knowledge runs out.

Which would be the best ones to smash this keyboard in with - and which are the real stinkers?

It's definitely not -- er, on second thoughts I'd better not go there. :D

Playing Elite WILL mash your stick, especially if you get any where near dangerous!
    Oh bugger!<br>

I bought a "new" quickshot joystick from ebay few months ago,, the first game i tried was D. Thompson.

If you look for a "good" game, good as in guaranteed to make you break your keyboard rather quickly, then go for Daley Thompson's Olympic Challenge. If my memory serves correctly (since I last played the game in 1988 or 1989), that one required a huge amount of keyboard mashing if you were to even hope to qualify.

Ive been trying not to play hypersports on the emulator too much because my laptop keyboard is still in relatively good shape, - maybe not for much longer though. its probably the best "mashing" game on the spec ever (IMO)

Brian Jacks Allstar Challenge (not sure if I have the title 100% correct there) is a little unpredictible to say the least, you can mash a keyboard with that no probs. The tanks on Action force II will break your stick. The boulder scene in Phantomas will break something on your computey and maybe a bone in your neck too.

^ yeah it's brian jacks "superstar" challenge. got it on the emu. bit of an absurd game, the dribbling/penalties stage is impossible.

Combat School and Geoff capes strongman, if memory serves, are two more keyboard intense games.

I just tried this game. I'd have to crash a golf ball side to side over the keys to have a hope of qualifying. In the long jump my fingers seized up before Daley even made it to the take off board. This is one hard core masher.

slightly O.T: does anyone remember (uk people) a gameshow for teenagers that used to be on in about the late 80s at about 5:30-6pm , and one of the rounds was a sports/computer round, and they actually had to button bash on a full keyboard in front of them for various events? the rest of the show was standard general knowledge questions etc. it was called something like Master-class...? someone's got to remember this, lol...seems ridiculous now that they had to do it on computer keyboards. not even joysticks!

I've mentioned this in another thread before, the name of the show is on that thread but I can't remember which thread it was under. Are you talking the one when they'd play Hypersports for one of the rounds early on, and midway through the show, and near the end they'd play the downhill level from 720'?

yep...that's it. did a bit of google searching and we're on about the same program. "First Class" it was called, I was nearly right.
and a brief section in which they played Konami's vintage Hypersports (including "a rather complicated spring and vault"), showcasing ace new digital tech again. Later games included the monumentally rubbish Paperboy and some skateboarding effort.

glad I found that or it would have seriously bugged me.:D
