Don't Blink!

edited June 2007 in Chit chat
That was one hell of an unnerving episode of Doctor Who. I loved it. The creatures were seriously scary, especially in the scenes when the light kept going out and you could see them slowly getting closer.

Brilliant stuff.

Excellent episode. A superb example of 'less is more.' Great name for a story too ;)

    Simply a superb episode!

AND in the confidential, there was a quick clip of one of my closest friends, who is in the next episode! I took a snap (it was such a quick shot):

He does have a speaking part, and I can't wait to see it... IT'S A QUARRY EPISODE! Woohoo! :D:D:D

'Twas a great episode indeed. More than makes up for the last 2.

The Doctor was brilliant in it even though he was hardly there.

I wonder if they'll show the episode where they are after the 4 things and a lizard.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

I found myself looking out of the window afterwards to make sure no statues had mysteriously appeared in my garden.
  • edited June 2007
Oh my God, that was freaky! I'll never be able to look at a statue in the same light again...

Can I blink yet? My eyes are stinging.

As a filler episode, it's a damn sight better than that Peter Kay crap.

It's already been added to TV Links. I've just been watching it again. Awesome episode. :)

I'm not the world's biggest Doctor Who fan, in fact I find the whole thing quite boring. However, apart from being predictable (simply place two "statues" facing each other, end of problem), it was damned good. Probably one of the best episodes I've seen in a long time.
    Oh bugger!<br>

Really pretty good! - quite a scary episode for what is, after all, a childrens tv show (despite all us adults who love it!).

Best bit of Doctor Who I've seen this series was the short narration by the school boy 'bad guy' towards the end of last weeks episode... it gave a bit more info into the rather dark side of the Doctor - I'd so love for the series to go in that direction a bit more... and to go back to multi-episode story arcs as we did in the past... not just the odd two-parter here and there.

I see Captain Jack is back next week.....

I was shocked to find out that the angels were people in costumes. I was certain that they were solid props. The Who wow factor goes up another notch.

The faces are masks though - they just change them with each blink.

Just rubbery costumes, like most monsters. Pretty bloomin good, eh.

Personally, I thought the last 2 episodes were fantastic... For those not in the know, this story is an adaptation of a 7th Doctor story from the Virgin novels (same name, same author who adapted it for TV).

This partly explains the pitch-black aspect of the Doctor's nature we get to see at the end.. However, I totally agree that we really need to see more of this kind of thing!

I agree that the last couple of episodes have been much better than most that have gone before.

I don't know why some are saying they didn't like the pre-WWI double episode (I can't find a thread discussing it here?) but I liked that it was a little more mature and philosophical. Likewise this last one was really quite creepy for what is actually a kids program. The little montage at the end implying all statues are a bit suspect must be especially disturbing to some kids.

Up until now I've felt the re-introduced Dr. Who has generally been much more immature than it used to be. (I grew up in the Tom Baker era.) So I'm pleased to see this new direction.

This is why I was so disappointed with Torchwood. It was billed as an adult version of Dr. Who, but IMO it was just as childish, but with some swearing. I stopped watching after about 4 episodes. So I'm not looking forward to that idiot Cpt Jack being back next week. :(

(Martha is very fit tho' :-D )

I finally watched the last episodes of Torchwood last night (to catch up with Captain Jack's story) before the new episode next week. I was hoping there would be some sort of improvement in the final episode but it wasn't to be.

Torchwood is an absolutely shit programme and I hope it doesn't make it to a second season.

Who else would like to see Simon Pegg write a couple of Doctor Who episodes? I really would. :)

Having seen how Torchwood ended and the sneak preview of the intro to the next episode that was shown on Jonathan Ross's show, it looks to me that the Torchwood ending doesn't tie up with the Dr Who series at all...

Speaking of "Torchwood", isn't it ironic that the family-oriented "Doctor Who" manages to be more scary, more intelligently-written and less patronising to the viewer than the supposedly adult-oriented "Torchwood"?

Series two better be seriously-overhauled. All I'm saying.

I myself love the new doctor who, and even the wife likes it.

The issue I have was I woud have liked some warning about the new direction of doctor who before seeing it as I have two very small kids (3 and 6) who love doctor who.

If I had known how blink was going to turn out (the montage of statues at the end and the statue devil faces) I may have thought twice before letting them watch.

Both went straight to bed afterwards, and no nightmares.

So my conclusions are either doctor who isnt as scary as Im thinking it is or that my family is more akin to the Adams family.

it wasn't scary. the montage was well self indulgant and it broke the 4th wall, which i didn't like.

The whole episode broke the fourth wall, not just the montage.

I see the window pop up then i click play then it says connecting.

How long does DivX say 'connecting' for? I have tried sites like this before and sometimes it just sits there and the bar at the bottom does not seem to fill up.

    I have latest free DivX

Just tried it in IE and it came up with a message that it could not load then quit.

I tried ep Smith and Jones and that buffered and worked great!

Could someone try this in Firefox now for me please?

Videos start up in a few seconds. The link to Blink has already gone bad that's why it's not working. Keep in mind sites like this one don't actually host the video files themselves -- they only act as a collection of links. Most videos are hosted at dailymotion or youtube or wherever and when the internet police catch up they get removed. If you're desperate to watch a specific episode you could try searching at dailymotion.com

If you want to see if it works and at the same time watch a worthwhile show, check out the last episode in season 3 of The Office (US). I just tried the version split in three parts and that works. There are two episode 24 (The Job) there in case one goes down I guess; I prefer the player for the one split in three.

Things get scarier as you get older I think. That episode was very scary, and the ending was almost cruel, being specificly aimed at kids so that they think they might die if they walk past a statue. You even hear the Doctor speak the words, 'Don't blink. Blink, and you're dead!' But they probably find that idea exciting or fun, as they know that its just telly. Adults understand the implications. I never used to be scared of Daleks... Now I find them terrifying. I understand the metaphors realted to nazis which form much of the Daleks immoral philosophy. Nasty tin pots.
