How long have you worked there ?
4 years
Do you like your job ?
It's not bad
What’s the best part about it ?
It's not particulary taxing. Watching the female students during the summer months isn't bad ;)
What’s the worst part about it ?
It's not particulary taxing... can't see much scope for progression. The commute is a bit of a pain in the backside (about a 55 mile round trip) and getting and paying for a parking space at work is getting more and more outrageous.
What hours do you work ?
8am-4pm, Mon-Fri
Do you have a specific dress code ?
Casual but smart (ie no tracksuits!). I usually wear jeans or cargo trousers and a shirt.
Do you like your boss ?
He's not bad
Do you like your work colleagues ?
Some of them are all right - mostly the ones who will think nothing of giving you a hand if you're busy or need help... whereas those who moan on all of the time I couldn't give a toss about (they're mainly the ones who are happy just to sit and do the same things day in, day out).
Have you ever played computer games at work ?
Rarely - occasional game of Bzflag or Delta Force around the holiday times.
Do you fancy any one at work ?
Couple of VERY hot girls at work including this gorgeous american girl... unfortunately every single one of them is either engaged or married. Maybe 3-4 hotties out of 40-odd women, the rest of whom are mainly late 30's onwards.
Have you ever been in trouble at work ?
Nope
Can you see yourself being there in 5 years time ?
No, I hope not. I hope to have moved on somewhere else by then and be managing my own IT team.
What’s the funniest thing that’s happened there ?
Various office nights out always have some sort of alcohol fuelled craziness going on... usually women crying or snogging people they shouldn't be... or my colleagues talking to the heads of the department (i.e their senior-most managers) and telling them that their recent car purchases are shit :D

Sounds like the place I used to work. Never had an office night out here. Everyones as old as my mother. The works xmas parties are embarrassing. Everyone gets dressed up, we go for a meal and then by about 9pm most of them are pissed after a glass of wine, asleep or gone home before they embarrass themselves. I just nip off and meet my mates and get completely c**ted..

i have to be careful on work nights out, there are a few middle aged women who when had a few think its a good idea to try and get into my pants. its great cos they try getting me drunk, but not so great when i start thinking its a good idea. a lot of the time they just innapropriatly touch me, or try dancing with me in a way im sure their husbands wouldn't approve of.
my mate did that once. me and some lads were in a caravan, drinking and taking drugs, when this guy comes out of the bath naked, covering himself, and when he took his hands away it was all tucked between his legs, it was the funiest things ive ever seen.
I thought I'd try and find out more about what my fellow WOS'ers are up to during their work hours, so I've compiled a simple survey. Overwrite my answers and repost please. Cheers.
WORKPLACE SURVEY
What type of company do you work for ?
Royal Mail - postal
How long have you worked there ?
Almost five years.
Do you like your job ?
Better than others I have had.
What?s the best part about it ?
I like working "unsociable" hours, I'm odd like that. Today for instance I started at 4:30am, finsished at 4.20pm. Tommorrow I will work 4am til 1pm, then back in at midnight, and do five hours over-time before I start by 5am shift. Oh, I like the overtime too.
What?s the worst part about it ?
The current industrial dispute, the governments attitude to it, and the regulator..
What hours do you work ?
5am to 1pm Monday to Saturday, plus overtime round the clock depending on the duty involved.
Do you have a specific dress code ?
In theory yes, in practice, not much of one. R.M hi-vis jackets, or tabards, that's about it. Getting new uniform is a pain in the backside. I never wear R.M trousers, I wear shorts, or my combat trousers, and magnum police/secuirty boots. Usually wear a short sleeved R.M shirt.
Do you like your boss ?
What I think about Alan Leighton and Aman Crozier, is unprintable on a public forum.
Do you like your work colleagues ?
Most of them. Some are perfectly pleasant people, but I have nothing in common with, and a few are prize idiots.
Have you ever played computer games at work ?
I play the fruit machine in the canteen. ?150 jackpot, 10p a go.
Do you fancy any one at work ?
Nope.
Have you ever been in trouble at work ?
Had several complaints by members of the public, none of the complaints were upheld. Basically, I do things by the book, this irks some people, and I simply move on down the street rather than try and argue a point with them. Usual complaint is that I wouldn't hand the mail to them outside their house but insisted in delivering it. I won't go into a garden with a loose dog either,
Can you see yourself being there in 5 years time ?
Dunno. Maybe. Depends if they lay me off or not.
What?s the funniest thing that?s happened there ?
Bloke moaning that he'd failed his bike test on his observations. Continuing to moan that he shouldn't have faild on observation, as he walked to an exit where the roller door was slowly automatically closing, and walked smack into it and knocked himself over.

Do you like your work colleagues ?
yeah. It's wierd though - they're mostly kids now (20 and younger) and I seem to spend most of my time just shaking my head at them getting arrested or running out of money by Wednesday. They're mostly on very good wages too (for their age) but they still manage to run out of cash. We got a lot of Polish workers too now and they aren't on a great wage. A shame 'cos some of them are really good guys and they deserve more.
Have you ever played computer games at work ?
no
Do you fancy any one at work ?
Damn right!
Have you ever been in trouble at work ?
Not here, but I did threaten to kill HR manager and Factory manager at one place I worked 'cos they were trying to frame one of my guys when someone broke into factory. Quite funny that they were sensible enough not to try fire me over that :)
Can you see yourself being there in 5 years time ?
maybe. I don't know
What?s the funniest thing that?s happened there ?
Nothing much here but something funny did happen at Dewsbury hospital where friend's GF works (maybe mile works there or maybe he's in Huddersfield hospital)
Anyways, some guy turns up at accident and emergency one saturday night with half a carrot stuck up his arse. He explains that he and his wife had been engaging in 'anal play' when the carrot broke in half.
you gotta think of two things - firstly, his wife is sat at home pissing herself laughing and secondly, how hard would YOU try to remove half a carrot from your arse before going to to hospital with it?
I had a funny day at job number 1 today, I've decided my supervisor (not my main boss), is a heads up on what Britney Spears will look like when she's 50. Also I've confused everybody by wearing a Newcastle United top to work today, and telling them it was my football team. Sombody said to me "Wah! they wear black n' white helmets too?". I laughed and explained what our football was, and that I wasn't gonna call it SOCCER for anybody
Everybody keeps asking me which part of Ireland I'm from too, dummies. I've got some celtic blood in my veins but I'm not Irish. Personally I don't think a Geordie accent sounds Irish.......Does anyone else????
A thing about leftpondia and accents. They think there is only two British accents - Scottish and English. English accents are all like Prince Charles. Scottish accents are all like Billy Connolly.
When I lived in Houston, I was usually accused of being Australian. If you don't sound American, but obviously speak English as your first language, if you don't sound like Prince Charles they'll just take a more or less random guess at an English speaking nation as your country of origin. Personally, most frequently, I had Australian (about 50% of the time), followed by South African and New Zealand. Never Irish, but once Canadian which I really can't work out. I was correctly identified as British perhaps 5% of the time.
I've also been asked if they speak English in England. Really. (By a particularly dumb blonde I hasten to add, but even then you'd think that they'd make the connection between England and English!)
Having an english accent can really help though, first time i went to America was to Atlanta, i actually love those deep south accents on the girls. Austin Powers had just come out at the cinema and everyone just loved the accent !
I purposely was doing stupid phrases such as 'bloody hell mate' etc and 'cor blimey guv' and met SO many cool people over there.
IF i was ever single again i would straight away go over to Atlanta ! Still makes me laugh the amount of comments i get about 'cup of tea mate ?' from several americans !
Welsh accents confuse the hell out of Americans - especially as there are a few different ones. I've known an american studying in Cardiff, who has met tons of students with welsh accents and then after speaking to them they have asked 'Where are you from ? You're not welsh are you ?' - Where as I probably sound more welsh than the diluted form that she has heard in Cardiff.
last time i was in the states i had to translate for my mate who speaks proper broad yorkshire. i think a lot of them thought he had a speach defect. i can pretty much turn mine on and off, as i work in an office (no not in dewsbury district hospital) im on the phone a lot so have developed a natural phone voice so i can be understood, he works on a building site so if anything his accent is getting worse.
they are a freindly people, although within an hour of landing, some woman was telling me that england should stop being mean to the irish and give them their freedom, and that prince charles should abdicate. i told her that i would have a word and see what i could get done, to which she was suitable impressed.
I did get a few 'are you australian' comments which i found weird, worst one was someone thought i was german ?!? I was quite upset !
a few people asked where i was from, so i say the north, they say scottish, i say no the north of england, the confussion continues.
i dont think its fair to say they must be thick for not picking out our accent straight away, there are plenty of eastern european countries i'd have no clue to as what they talk like.
i never really understood the whole tipping thing over there. i would tip for a meal, but not at a bar, i mean how much does this napkin youve helpfully wrapped my drink in cost? and then theres some bloke in the toilet about to hand me a towel, and he expects a tip. here's a tip mate wear a uniform so foreign visitors dont think your some sort of pervert hanging around in mens toilets.
oh and apparently crossing when it says 'dont walk' is illegal, but turning against a red light is encouraged.
That crossing thing (jaywalking) varies by state. The US is not nearly as homogenous as the UK - a US state for instance has more freedom to legislate than Scotland does. The states themselves get to make most of the laws - the Federal government (in theory) should only legislate on federal matters. This is why some states have the death penalty and others don't, for instance. Occasionally the Federal government will lean on states - such as the drinking age: many states had 18 as a drinking age, but to force all states to raise the age to 21, the federal government threatened to withdraw highway funding for states that didn't comply with their demands.
Right turn on red is a very good idea which helps traffic flows, incidentally. We really ought to have left turn on red here.
As to the tipping thing (when I started reading that sentence, I thought you were going to talk about cow tipping!) this is because restaurants don't have to pay their staff minimum wage, if the staff can make it up with tips. So the restaurants don't, expecting the customers to get the wait staff's wages up to minimum wage with tips. On the plus side, this does mean that wait staff actually understand the meaning of "customer service" because their income is highly dependent on whether they provide it or not. Something that's sorely needed here!
in the paper this morning a state in the US has banned pants that sag down and will give out a 6 month gaol sentance to offenders. (the senator's brother probably sells belts.)
Having an english accent can really help though, first time i went to America was to Atlanta, i actually love those deep south accents on the girls. Austin Powers had just come out at the cinema and everyone just loved the accent !

The problem I have with southern girls, is not the girls themselves but there extended inbred families (oh how can you tell if your looking at a Redneck house- its the one with more pets on the front porch then extended family members)
New thread idea :- redneck jokes...
Don't get me wrong, I love Americans, especially when they are so far away...
