Hello everyone. To my surprise, I found an E-Mail from Skarpo today in my box, asking about me and telling about this thread. First of all, thank you for your nice thoughts :) I've been away from the WoS forum for a long time by now, and it's not been only a matter of increasing responsibilities at work - it's been two years since I had the opportunity of going back to teach in my hometown, this time in an even bigger high school, but rather, I'd tell you, the feeling of not having much more to say.
You see, I'm much less interested now in the Spectrum - and, generally speaking, in retrogaming and computer games - than I was until two-three years ago. I seldom spend my time consulting WoS and other Spectrum-related websites nowadays. I have been dedicating myself, other than my work and all the things around it, to other activities like digital photography, live music and cultural events. For instance see my involvement in www.messinabynight.it - a web-based local community I take part in as forum moderator, assistant site administrator and official photographer (although you can even find some recent pictures of myself there as well ;) )
Other things I've done in the last two years include a Ph.D. in History of Mediterranean Europe (17th-20th century), a ZMP (certification of a middle-advanced level of German language proficiency) and some travels abroad - Vienna, December 2005/January 2006 and Dublin, June 2006; I will also spend some days in Budapest at the beginning of next June.
This year I will hopefully start a new website of mine from scratch. The Spectrum and its influence on my personal history will be featured in it, of course ;) I'll let you know when (and if) it will be online. Meanwhile, you can visit my puny excuse for a blog at viaggiatorefantasma.spaces.live.com, assuming that you can understand Italian ;) You will however find there some photos of mine, including a selection from the ones I took in Dublin last year.
I wish you all the best. Take care!
Your brother in Sir Clive,
Alessandro Grussu
Hey, I don't really know you, but it's good to know you're still alive and well :) Skarps will no doubt be happy too! But hey, Skarps is ALWAYS happy :)

Surely if the 'alive' bit had stopped, you'd have remembered making the collection :-)
Not necessarily - see, I have a daily quota to collect, and usually, things go according to plan. But, since even I use Microsoft products, data loss is inevitable. I deal with so many lost souls that to recollect the individual one is impossible. That, and following my hard drive crash I had a few weeks ago forcing to bin a 40Gb drive and replacing with the old retired 12Gb drive, means that some records have been lost.
We apologise for any inconvenience and can assure you that Mr Gates WILL pay for his crimes :D
Hallo, LCD is here... Just a quick note from me: I'm well and I will return next year to the Scene (Middle of May 2008). Can't reply there because I don't have Internet access (Currently I'm using my brother's one). BMP2SCR EXP will be not develooped further as I lost the source code, but I'm working now on a similar prog called Retro-X, which can convert AVI in real time to Spectrum even on a PIII 450 Mhz!

Welcome back! (Albeit briefly).
It's great to hear from some of the old-timers again. We should sticky this thread or something, so those who've lost touch can drop in and let us know what's been happening.
(Sorry, I'm probably feeling a bit sentimental after reading about Jim's passing yesterday).
One of my exes used to nag on and on that I should upgrade to a 128k with heatsink ... for the size, you see ... but I think it would have still been like throwing a sausage down the hallway ...

(har har? ... No? ... oh, well.)
If you want size then go for an Amstrad CPC464, they're HUGE.

Make sure he pays for it very slowly and dearly ... perhaps even put him on a payment plan ;-)

Hey now ... when it comes to forum-trawling minutes do count ;-)
I am quite comfortable with my Rubber keyed Speccy, thank you! ... sigh.
