a bunch of hippies would be up in arms if only lentil soup gave them enough energy to stand.

if your going to take anything lightheartedly it would be homer simpson. i can't believe they are making a fuss about it. i especially like that they are complaining because it's an area of scientific interest, and then go on to say that they will perform a rain dance. idiots.

Hey! It's bad Karma man. Don't upset the great spirit of Mung Bean Salad, or I'll send the passifists round to not assault you!

Haha! Stupid Hippies I laugh at them and their sausage like dreadlocks.

    Get a wash......tramps!

That`s disgusting :( OK, the Cerne Abbas giant is an ugly thing itself, but to place a cartoon fantasy figure so close to something 500 years old is just wrong.

At least Homer is wearing pants!

By the write-up, it doesn't sound as though they're up in arms about it, rather slightly dismayed. I think its great, and you can't get much more pagan than me. :)

You`ve got a point there... and Homer also doesn`t seem to be sporting an enormous erection :)

There`s a bit of me that wants to laugh, but can`t... I think it`s the closeness of the thing that offends me, perhaps if it had been a few fields away I would have laughed, but it`s just took away everything from the Cerne Abbas Giant, and also it looks like their having a fight (which, yeah, is funny). Just find it disrespectful, I don`t know who too, perhaps history?

Nice link Necros... that really is hilario0us, hadn`t realised what Homer was holding, thought it was a weapon...

also, if you click link for original pic :-

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/07/uk_enl_1184598005/html/1.stm

it says :- "The cartoon character Homer Simpson has been painted on to a hillside next to the famous giant at Cerne Abbas, Dorset. The biodegradable Simpson will be washed away by rain, unlike the giant who has stood proud, on and off, for centuries"

so I find it funny now, I thought they`d cut it into the ground and chalk, like the original...

Ha ha come on fella !

I dont wear cardigans or that but yeah i would have course found it 100% offensive IF it was carved into chalk !

Can you really see the big bods in parliament agreeing that Homer Simpson in chalk next to the Cerne Abbas Giant is alright and not kicking up a fuss ?

Talk about going OTT before reading the full facts !

Wonder what the Americans would have said if they'd added a temporary Homer head to Mount Rushmore?

the majority would have found it funny i reckon. :)

i hope they beam a pic of homer in his undies on the houses or paliment.

I'm sure some who have nothing better to do would moan.

The Homer figure is in chalk so within a week or so it'll disappear. Theres no way they did it without asking permission from the National Trust or whoever owns it. The money Fox paid them i'm sure theyre very happy with.

If someone added a jokey head near to Mount Rushmore a few people would moan but i'm sure many others would either laugh if they saw a giant Homer Simpson head or not be that fussed either way knowing it'll disappear in a week or so.

IF Homer Simpson was cut into chalk and IF there was a real Homer Simpson carving next to Mount Rushmore then of course i'm sure we would all be in uproar but come on, whats the world coming to ? Its a bit of fun, wont last for long till it disappears and people are getting all snotty about it.

Yeah it is funny me getting bothered

I don`t know what it is Paul, but I seem to be turning into a whinging old b*stard, hehe, think I need to start smoking dope again (if the lungs hold up), lol ;-)

I just assumed it was cut in, it wasn`t `til I saw a bigger picture, and thought hold on, Homer looks too bright that I thought it might be paint !

i bet they will do cracking trade with homer there, if it's a pay to get access sort of thing, all the better. :)

and free publicity for a historical site can only do our tourist board good.
